I have done several auto grows. My light schedule is 24/0 with CFLs from seed to harvest. Soil grow. Pretty simple.

I would do at least 18/6 from start to finish, thats what i do, lots of people use 24/0 or 20/4 though.

for auto flowers anthing will work 12/12 18/6 20/4 24/0 it it is believed amoung the masses of auto growers that 18/6 and above is best....

I've done 2 CFL grows and both were under 14/10 light cycles start to finish. The first produced nearly double what I expected (Lowryder 2), and the second produced the upper-end of what is considered normal (Afghan Kush Ryder).

But the right type of lighting is also important. Make sure you are getting enough lumens of the right spectrum to the plants. I hope this helps.

Thanks mate, what weight did you get per plant in the end from the lowryder2's? was thinking of trying them next

You want to go 24/0 at least till you hit the flowering stage, with autoflowers youve only got a limited amount of time to veg the plant and get it as large as possible before it goes into flowering. the plants still hit around the 2-3x larger than when they start flowering size.

O.k nice one, was thinking of going with normal strains next instead of auto can i get away with doing 16/8 light with some clones untill they hit 12/12???????

It was late 2010, and I pulled 2.18oz dry. 2.43oz if you count the 7g of crystal-caked sugar leafs I pulled off the buds to use for baking. Picture link in my sig.

cannabis plants dont need a dark period. They gather and use c02 while photosynthesising, making them a c3 plant while A c4 plant collects c02 during night to use for photosynthesis so does need a dark period.

Anyway, back to the question- you could do 16/8 if you want with photoperiod plants. What kind of lighting you using and how much room you have? in general i'd run the lights as much as possible as suits your situation.

Why do they need dark exactly? A c3 plant gathers and uses c02 while photosynthesis is happening, ie when the lights are on. A c4 plant gathers c02 at night to use during photosynthesis the next day.Cannabis is c3. Whats confusing about that?

If your going to do a normal 12/12 flower light cycle your auto's wont bulk up as much, it takes away the advantage of autoflowering plants that they dont need 12 hrs of dark to flower. if you have no choice but to run a 12/12 flower cycle b/c of security or something you'd be better off getting a non-auto strain that does need it imo. youll get more bang for your buck so to speak.
