What exactly does growing have to do with germinating a seed??? Entirely two different subjects.

According to Jorge Cervantes in his book, Marijuana Horticulture; The Indoor/Outdoor Medical Grower's Bible, located on page 17, chapter 2, "Soak seeds overnight in a shot glass of water. Make sure seeds get good and wet so growth is activated. Do not let seeds soak for more than 24 hours, or they might get too wet, suffer oxygen deprivation, and rot."

I have tried this method and have had 100% success rate at germinating seeds. If you choose to soak seeds for more than 24 hours, do so at your own risk, but I don't advise telling others that soaking seeds for more than 24 hours involves no risk.

Since you seem to think of yourself as more qualified to give information than Jorge Cervantes, please save it for your book.

Hello,
I see you got tons of Info already to build your own criteria that will work best for you,

The way I do it is placing the seeds into a cup filled with water along with a lid or anything that will block light for 24 hours, after those 24 hours you will see them sinking if you gently stir the water, this means that the seeds absorbed all the water they need in order to start the germination process, depending on the condition of the seeds some will germinate within this first method (you will see a tiny white protuberance (hypocotyl) popping out)- After those 24 hours on water, I get a better germination (IMO) if I place the seeds on a wet paper towel (not soaking wet), very soon (1 more day or so, again, it depends on many factors including its genetics) the remaining seeds will start germinating, i never wait till the little root (hypocotyl) starts gowing before I place them in the growing medium because this first boost is responsable for the proper growing of the young stem that will subsecuently emerge from the seed.

At the end, the best thing you can do is experiment, purchase some mexican brick weed and practice with the tons of seeds you can find in there, you will also get to see a bunch of different stages and conditions of the seeds-

Seeds are intelligent, if you are having problems with germination, Its more likely that you are not gathering the proper conditions for a seed to germinate- as long as you have water, oxigen and a normal temp (I also avoid light on the first 24, this makes them think they are underground, and when they are in the paper towel or growing media let indirect light because some seeds (not sure if cannabis seeds but what the hell) also like or need the proper light freq. in order to germinate) they will know what to do...

Good luck and have fun!

I haven't done it 1000's of times, but in my experience putting them in water for a couple of hours first speeds up the paper towel method by a day or more.

Are you serious??.......germinating has nothing to do with growing?? are you sure??? your just digging yourself a bigger hole :lol:.

...........or they might get too wet, suffer oxygen deprivation, and rot."
MIGHT being the key word.......in some cases germinating in a cup with water can germinate seeds within the first 24 hours and if they are left unattended they can die brother but in some cases it takes longer than 24 hours for the seedlings to germinate so they can't die if they haven't germinated yet......see your quoting from books when I've actually been there done that....

and I never said I was more qualified than Jorge (than you yes) but remember Jorge write his books with his preferences in mind.........

ask your self how many times have you germinated some seeds?? how many grows you got under your belt......then realize that you really don't know much, only what you've read.....not from experience

Obviously, I am dealing with a germinating expert. I bow to you, king.

Yup when i grew with seeds, putting them in water first and them wet not soggy. paper towel has worked best. I put the paper towel in a zip lock and put it on the top of my fridge and cover it with something to hide the light.

Always had hit or miss with the paper towel.. which I thought worked well. *THEN* I thought I would try to soak em 24-48 hours with a couple drops of H2O2 and the tap root is about 1/8" to 1/4" long. 100% so far with this method.. never going back.
