Tortoises vs. Solar Energy

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – A federal assessment shows more than 3,000 desert tortoises that are threatened with extinction would be disturbed by a California solar project, and up to 700 of the young turtles would be killed during construction.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management assessment released Tuesday is far more than BrightSource Energy Co.'s prediction that an estimated 38 of the rare reptiles would be disturbed by construction at the 5.6-acre Ivanpah Valley site near Primm, Nev.
Questions over the California tortoises highlight tensions in the U.S. between wilderness conservation and the quest for cleaner power.
The dispute is likely to echo for years as more companies seek to develop solar, wind and geothermal plants on land treasured by environmentalists who also support the growth of alternative energy. At issue is what is worth preserving and at what cost, as California pushes to generate more electricity from renewable sources.
Federal officials this month ordered BrightSource to halt construction activity on two-thirds of the project.

Jeff, I don't care about the turtles, it is too late for us to care about the turtles, we need energy and it should be renewable.

when will they measure the human impact of no energy? so worried about turtle suffering (which never pans out on any of their endangered species rantings) but not worried about power to assist humans...pathetic.

does the left think hospitals run on turtle power? or spotted owl power?

do they think that new medical advancements are invented by striped chitweiler lizards?

how many people have died since outlawing ddt? milions? tens of millions?

fuck the people save the birds. total dicks.

Our purpous in life is to consume and pollute planet earth.

When will our consuming of resources ever slow down?

Drilling for oil, FRACing for natural gas all fuck up the environment in massive ways.

But nobody cares...

Ah yet another "believer" in that "banned DDT killed millons" myth. Why does that continue to make the rounds? I guess if a myth can be spread around enough then people might begin to believe it.

People care. There is not a whole lot that can be done until the RIGHT people care or until there is money in renewables.

well being that it was nearly eradicated until it was ban, one could easily draw the conclusion that ddt ban played a role. easier to draw that conclusion than to draw the conclusion that me driving my truck has caused the earth to heat up....wouldnt you say?

give me an example of when one of these bogus endangered species nutcases has been right.

what species have we directly killed off and made extinct by advancing technology? just one example will convince me to sell my house and move my family under a rock, unless of course an endangered species gets there first.....

No, you are the total dick. You never have anything contructive to say for one, and every single post of yours seeks to insult the left - nothing else. You can disagree but there really is no reason for you to insult literally half of the nation. I mean, it'd be one thing if you actually presented some tangible evidence to go along with your claims but instead all you do is insult insult insult.

The OP just got me thinking.

I'm looking at the big picture, where is humanity going? Will we ever run out of oil to fuel our cars, homes, futures?

Yes I consume resources too, never said I didn't...

The U.S. had no ability to "ban" the use of DDT all over the world. In fact DDT use in vector control has never been banned internationally.
The reason some countries quit using it is because it was used massively for crops rather than vector control and that over use caused it to quit working. The left has a series of nutzoid rants that are not true but the right has an entire system of them and they are trotted out as fact over and over again just as you did.

Extinction? Passenger pigeon. Extinct. The last one died September 1st 1914. Man killed them all, loss of habitat, commercialized as food for slaves and the poor. Let me know which rock you plan to move your family to and I will send you some find pigeon pie.

This is so often all that the right can come up with as response, except for when they claim the right resorts to such tactics. I find that myth is often substituted for truth in these sorts of discussions. "pine trees create more polution than cars" - recall that Reagan line that never ever went away?

Run out? no. we won't run out, but you won't be able to afford what is left, and this will begin to happen very soon.

couldnt they just move them to a temporary habitat during construction?
Ill bet they could hire a team of illegal aliens and it would be done in 2 hours tops, cost $1000 at the most, but they won't do that. First they will have multiple endless meetings, then they will form a "save the turtle" committee, then they will take bids from Official turtle wranglers around the country. After they have accepted the best bid, they will then hire a crew of Union turtle movers which since they don't exist will have to be created and trained in their very own special facility which will need to be built and funded. After paying approximately 200 people for several years they will finally get to the job site and find that most of the turtles moved away. Total cost $128,245,616.

i was never a birther. i think the issue was settled when he was elected and inaugurated. he IS potus.

i guess i did have sand in my vagina though. deisel has been over 4 bucks a gallon for months (i drive deisel) and i have had to make several trips 300 miles one way plus heat my house ....cuz of all the global warming. we have people trying to shut down the natural gas industry in this state, which is the only positive economic news around here in 50 years, and now we cant even put up solar panels without douchbags making up some stupid turtle crisis.

its taking its toll on my finances and i guess i am just bitchee..sorry.
