oh honey i have pulled that plug out of sheer desperation in the past myself.
i know what you mean about the "less-than-ideal demotivation" .... dealing with a bit of that *right *now in fact.... but we have no choice about it at the moment; we're at the "grit teeth and dig the fuck in" stage so that's what we're doing. and i'm hating it, of course.

whatever you decide, the way i see it it's like flying a kite or riding a bicycle... when you want to again, it'll be there for you.

I've actually found, that CFL (or normal flouro) and MH aren't all that different. In fact, CFL and flouro's in the proper temp (6500°K)* easier then you can get a MH bulb @ that temp. I've found that most standard MH grow bulbs (unless they are specialty, and those can run you up to 60 bux a bulb) are 5500°K, or 5000°K. Although, i've heard of MH bulbs in the 7000°K - 7500°K range. But i'm getting off topic. I'm running 17x 23 W CFL's, each putting out 1600 Lumens each. Giving me roughly 30,000 Lumens @ just over 400W's. Yes, with MH I could be getting an extra 5000 Lumens or so, but the temp isn't always as good as it is in flouro's and CFL's. Good luck rene, i'm keepin an eye.

And that would be verses 38000 lumens for 400 watt mh advantage plus the penetration is almost nil with low wattage cfl's...not knocking them as I use to use cfl's for the whole grow...but the heat from 1 400 watt source even though hid has been much easier to control not to mention how much easier it is with only having to adjust only one bulb position... Also I cannot stress enough that a light mover is really an awesome low cost in energy addition that just about equates to doubling your lighting....but most make the mistake of increasing the coverage area of the light when adding a mover....sorry off on a ramble here but there's something good in there huh?

I actually started a thread the first time i bought it to ask for help..bunch of people told me it works fine, and sure as shit it does..how are you doing today anyway bro?

Thank you so much your a sweetheart man I just been do the same as your for long time now the grow isn't the problem truly it is the easiest thing in my life but like I said I can't stand seeing them hurting! I'm sure I will keep pushing forward and try to keep the growing after all I'm trying new things about time I stop giving up!

that ham came out pretty descent, my father in law smoked it while i was fucking around with my truck. not sure what he used but it def wasnt the shit i left out for him haha.
all in all not bad...i found 1 or 2 quick clips of that cooking video i had i was telling you about i can show you if you want...just gotta figure out how to load them without using youtube

im a big fan of CFL's...im also an even bigger fan of many small (23w) cfl's over the single big wattage cfl's. Ive always like it that way because like you said, you can pull a shit load of lumens. im not doubting you but i find it very hard to believe that 17 cfl's put off the same heat as a 400? mh..
my first grow was with 10 23w's and now i only use 7 and my temps are outta control. do you use an inline fan or something? my temps in my cab are ALWAYS atleast 10 degrees hotter then the rest of my house... not doubting you bro, just find it hard to believe

When you put them ALL right above, your right. But i'm talking about near complete coverage. In my grow journal you can see in the vids. It's STUPID complex and a terrible way to grow, but i've got cfl's surrounding my plants. They get amazing coverage like that. And many MH bulbs differ. The 38,000 lumen bulb is how much? Cause a 23W CFL is $2 @ lowes. And the difference in heat is like night and day.

Was just relaying that I did the all cfl grow thing and had 16 x 23 watt plus 4 x 42 watts all around 2 plants ....and what I paid for all those bulbs and light fixtures I could have bought a 1000 watt setup for....lol....I have switched to a 400 watt on a light mover with remote ballast and the heat is much easier to control...I run a cmh bulb...here's some info:

Also you do not want to use them in sealed hoods or cool tubes as the glass will block the uvb produced which we truly want for potency accentuation

Yup have all those links myself. And almost got my HPS from them, but after shipping and so on, I found it would be cheaper to just buy it all from a local hydro shop. Or maybe like 20 bux more. And thats for a digi ballast. And I didn't buy a bunch of fixtures for all my CFL's, I actually use old lamps scavenged from all over and gutted them, and plugs and cords from my christmas light supplies that I bought a year or 2 ago. The only thing I purchased was the 4 hoods, and a couple of Y splitters and plug to bulb socket adapters. Maybe 40 bux. And the bulbs, @ another 40. Lets throw in another 20 bux, in case I low balled anything, and we'll say roughly 100 bucks for 31,300 Lumens.
I'm not saying it's the BEST option, or even superior to MH, I'm simply saying that it gets better coverage as you can position them on ALL sides of the plant(s).
