Why is Mainstream Christianity Against Pot?

I know this isn't going to really be debated or anything because, being on this website, 99% of us prove of smoking pot. I'm just trying to figure out why mainstream Christianity is against it. I am a very firm christian and have been since I was 7. I just can't find why, I've researched it and asked christians about it and all they say is "It's bad" or "It's illegal so it's bad." But has anyone actually given you a scriptural reference to why it is? I guess I just can't fathom saying it's bad or wrong without having anything but here-say.

Because science and common sense has caught up will them. Both proving GOD does not, nor ever has existed. Jesus may have walked the earth but he was nothing more than an evangalist. They need something to blame on the non-existant devil.....helps take the focus off evolution....

Obey the law of the land type thing? Plus, like cowboy said...it's the devil's doing
I think that's basically it. The part about obeying the law of the land that is. I think it's construed from Jesus' sermon where he tells his followers to give to unto Caesar (taxes) what is his and unto God the things that are His or something like that. One of the gospels also pretty much states to obey earthly authority (laws).

I can understand the "common sense" part but where in the world are you getting your info from that science has *proven* God doesn't exist?

Reference to 'serpants, sea monsters or dragons' cannot count.....science has proven man at best was tribal beasts themselves and far less evolved than those quoted in the bible speaking of serpants, sea monsters and dragons.....you know. The whole fossil record thing? Unless you have a different explaination of dinosaurs? Please dont use the abomination card........

Mmm so it goes like this?

There is evidence that proves that mankind at one point in history used crude tools and that evolution did in fact occur which directly contradicts written stories in a bible therefore God cannot exist.

I think most Christians that are against marijuana are against it simply because they think its "evil" and a "sin".

If you ask them why they will repeat the usual bullshit reefer madness propaganda that most idiots still believe.

So basically it comes down to fear and ignorance. They think that as a Christian they have to be against it, and have fear that if they don't condemn it as evil, God will be angry at them.

And they are ignorant to what cannabis is and don't realize that it is a wonderful plant with many uses. They don't know about the miraculous medicinal properties.

Here's the deal. 1) I didn't want to debate whether Christianity was real or not because I cannot give you my whole side through typing, it's too complex and thorough to put in type. 2) We all have different influences, both from parents, siblings, teachers and life experiences that brought us to the point we are at, I believe in Christ because of my own experiences and you do not because of your own so you cannot judge my experiences just as I cannot judge yours but I can pray that you will experience the things I have one day. 3) Yeah the passage you're talking about is Romans 13:1-7 and that's all I can come up with too

Think about the generation that is in the higher spots of the churches?
That generation has been brain washed to believe cannabis is a gateway to satanism or such a drug would make a man commit adultery.

I just wonder if it can be corrected of if this is how it's suppose to be. I just wonder what could make the truth come out when its built on so much falsity.

Of course Christians that approve of MJ can always cite the line in the old testament where God states He has given us all the plants and animals or some such.

Same here. I just posted my answer to the original question. Plus my opinion. And the next couple of posts said pretty much the same(besides my opinion). Devil, illegal. And a follow up answer. Happy Trails Midwest........

When you say "corrected" do you mean the attitudes of mainstream Christianity or it's dubious legal position in the US?

Yeah my response was just a general shotgun approach to pretty much everything in the first half of the page. And I really mean both. I'm trying to draw up a business and legal plan to introduce pot to legality and I think the first step may be to convince the church. As you said legalization before acceptance, but I think either is interchangeable. And sorry, idk how to reply with quotes and I am in a stage not to care to learn right now.

Truthfully I think the biggest hurdle you would have to face is lobbyist interests from a variety of sources and not the church. Lumber mill companies, cotton producers, drug companies all have more to gain keeping MJ illegal than legal.

Actually, the most common argument that I've ever heard christians make, that actually makes sense, is the following: MJ, Tobacco, Alcohol, and other mind/body/mood altering substances are sinful because the bible declares the body to be a temple. These substances are seen by the christian mind (anti-pot christians, that is. We all know that the christians here don't subscribe to that belief at least as far as it relates to pot.) to be something that defiles that temple, and thus constitutes a sinful act.

I kinda understand that but it seems it's just the pot calling the kettle black, because as they say they they have a cup of coffee in the other hand. I guess it's just where you decide to draw the line.

It's because they are sheep and their sheppard said it was an evil thing. So the sheep will follow this until you show them the light and they follow a new sheppard.
