Hey im 3 weeks into flowering and i cut most of my shade leaves so my buds can get more light. Will this shock my plants or stunt the growth? was this a good idea?? please reply thanks

Um, yeah, good luck with that. I wonder how GM's production would fare if they just closed all of their assembly plants? It would probably allow them to focus their energy on what's important, like building cars right? No? They need those assembly plants to build the cars? Shit! What now?...

Don't cut off the fan leafs if they are healthy. It's like taking down a solarpanel because it shades ;O)

LOL. play nice wolverine...

Dude your fan leaves are your photosynthesis drivers, you need them to produce the goods baby....don't cut them off again. They are most defenitely in shock but they will bounce back although you have diminished your yield.

Rather post the question before doing anything that may hurt them.

Live and learn.

As has been said, the buds aren't the bits that need the light, that would be the huge broad large surface area fan leaves :)

trimming off these 'shade' leaves depends entirely upon the strain of the plant
some respond very well, while others...well....not so much
Personally i simply LOATH trimming any leaves
There is no reason to turn a blind eye to the solid fact many a grower have splendid results taking a weed whacker to their plants though

it apparently works just fine with the proper strains and an experienced grower... trimmings of some kind must be done from time to time in any case
Trimming or not trimming your babies is really a personal preference.

Nothing like asking AFTER you went and fucked your plants up.

No, it wasn't a good idea.

So wats the disadvantage of me doing this??
You cut out all of the energy producing parts of the plant. Those are the plants solar panels and sugar factories. You should aim to grow lots of healthy foliage, and the foliage will take care of growing your buds.

slower bud growth while the plant struggles to get light. if you were worried about airflow/humidity maybe you would want to remove leaves, but personally I wouldn't remove a healthy leaf and expect that to increase my yield.

the only real disadvantage is if you lack the patience to learn/wait out the plants new veg/flower/harvest schedule and insist on using one for a pristine unmolested plant
it needs a bit of time to adjust to everything...you'll be sorely disappointed if you don't adjust too

i've seen some pretty healthy harvests from what i can only describe as sticks of a plant...it didn't give a shit about missing leaves
reveges like mad too it does....a freak of nature if there ever was one

it'll be fine..lol

EDIT:
if you find trimming to be helpful to your grow, i would suggest you clip the off leaves half way between the stem and leaf if you don't already
leave a bit of the stem of the leaf behind...it'll look a bit silly sure, kinda like a porcupine, but it helps prevent infections taking hold of the main stems and the plant will drop the little tags soon enough

You'll be better than good.
Lots of folks remove leaves.
If you want to see some real "defoliation",, check my signature. I started comparing strain to style. Since has taken off in a new direction, but with the same style. May find it interesting?

Really, you're good.
Glad to see you're not afraid to try stuff on your own. Only way to learn and know for sure. Good luck with your grow.:clap::clap:
