little up date girls are looking better, i will never buy Roots organic soil again. that was BS the PH being that low. i tested the run off after adding allot of dolomite lime and now its 6.2 its allot better then the 5.2-5.4 it was coming out at.. i have some new girls on the way to replace these ones since they got so locked up. pisses me off, nothing i could do to get the PH up i even feed at 9.5PH and it didnt budge

heres some pics of the little ones. the new growth is still getting better their just growing very slow right now.. i took a pic in natural light to show how the leds make them look much worse and highlights the details, she is my best looking girl i have now. this is what happens when you dont test the PH of the soil before you use it. never buy Roots Organic soil again.. waiting on the new cutting to root should be the end of this week? the added Dolomite lime has seen to help, i checked one of the girls that needed water and its run off went from the PH out of the bag at 5.2 to 6.3.. it was a major quality control issue, no soil should be PH of 5.2 out of the bag. really hurt these girls and locked them up fact, but time will tell on how they do at the end of the day? just a waste of time though

i know bro, it kills me.. i am pissed that the soil was that low in PH out the bag. lesson learn always test the mediums PH before using it. just a big waste of time i should be flowering right now.

Don't worry too much man. I've had much worse plants come back strong. It just takes time for recovery.

Per your request Irishboy I have an update (had to remove small ;) ) on my Spectra grow (1st gen 2011 395w ((switched from 400 HPS 1 week into 12/12)).

14.jpg11.jpg12.jpg13.jpg

Here are some pics. I haven't done any comparison pics yet to see the real difference but I grabbed a small popcorn piece just big enough to fill up most of an average spoon/bowl and got a really good look at it |||| and couldn't help but feel like there had to be at least 50% more trichomes (or maybe its resin I'm not 100% sure...) on it than most of the good bud from my first harvest (although that could be that they were bag seed, had foxfarm instead of earthjuice, GLH>HPS, who knows). Tolerance is way to high for me to know how effective it really is at this point, but I had a bit and I feel it well enough.

PS: The soil in these plants was simply FF OF with 1/3rd added perlite and Earth Juice for nute feeds. I had to grind at the root mass quite a bit to break it up and I knocked the crap out of it trying to recycle the dirt it held before I took that pic. That tap root pic I think was from the 2 gallon plant and not one of the .8 gallon plants (difference was in length only, and only by maybe 4 or 5 inches). Camera doesn't do the air pots handy work with the roots justice*

I'm a bit intimidated by what will happen when with the new plants that get 3 additional soils (Light Warrior, FF Potting Soil, Black Gold) along with Mykos/Azos/CalCarb/DolomiteLime/HFFruit&Flower/FF Tomato/Veggies. The two new plants already appear to be 3-5 days ahead of those in these pics at 10 days above ground.

PSS: The difference in roots between the .8gallon plants and 2 gallon plants is because for how much soil they had the smaller ones got as much as 50% more food by accident (I underfed the 2 gallon plants for their pot size by only giving 1/2 - 3/4 as much nute/water).

After 4 days I get the feeling they should be just safely above the point where they would have began to become too dry if I jar them tomorrow on the 5th day. It works out because I get the day off and have the hours it took to harvest before I need to clean the jars for ready at precisely the 120th hour.

How tall are your plants Irish?

what works great is waiting until the buds are simi crispy, throw them in the jar checking every 6 hours once you feel them wet again throw them in a brown paper bag and check every few hours turning them every so often. dont stake them over 2" and leave the open on top.. this will dry the buds real even and just come out perfect, then they go in the jars after that and ur good to go. saves you allot of time and gives you A+ smoke. dont even hang ur buds until the stems snap, some stems will not dry for the longest time and ur buds will be dust by then.lol

i posted ur pic somewhere els, hope you dont mind? if so ill delete it, i wanted to show some folks this because its the only 2011 grow ive seen even though their not the newest ones their still the new 2011 1st gen ones.

the plants havent been really growing, i think their like 10"

No I don't mind, but I would like some links to where you posted them. Yeah I know not to let them dry out too much, if they get moist enough from some jarring today then yeah I might just stick em in a paper bag or something like you said. Oh and I only started using that LED after 1 week of 12/12, so I guess my grow doesn't really prove LED can grow (but then we didn't need proof LED can veg did we? :P )

nice to see ya again brother, ya i am still around doing my thing.. to be honest i havent really got to use the Dyna-Gro because of the Roots soil screwing me over. really put a hurting on me and my time.. i do know this do not use not then a 1/4tsp per gal.. stuff is very very strong and its not watered down at all.. from what ive seen and heard i think this is my line.
irishboy welcome back to riu bro, hope your plants recover fast
hey brother how are you? thanks man, i hope they pull threw.. i have some rooting right now as a back up. this grow really just threw a curve ball at me and hop every one can learn from this and check their soil before using.

ya just go with the flow, if their wet put them in bags if dry leave them and burp them every day.. you grow still shows leds can flower, do get me wrong if best to see the whole grow with leds but that still gives hope

Hey Irish,
I bought three of them Humid 3 units from fleabay to put in the jars, I forget what they should read first going in and then after awhile..And what is the right percentage ,that I know I have got it right...

They r 70 percent now and one jar is 65 percent..
Thanks

take the 70% out and throw it in a paper bag right away!! or leave out to dry where airflow can get to it DO NOT LEAVE IT IN A JAR UR GOING TO GET MOLD.. you really want it 63-65% i like 63%

this is a method a grower named Simon made.. works great. you do not need the meters they have though

This method is particularly effective for folks who are starting out, those looking to maximize quality in a shorter period of time, and folks who's like to produce a connoisseur-quality product each and every time with no guesswork involved.

It's a very simple and effective process:

Cut the product, trim it per your preference, but don't dry it until the stems snap. Take it down while the stems still have some flex, but the product feel dry on the outside. This is a perfect opportunity to drop the dry-feeling flowers onto a screen and collect prime-quality kief that would otherwise get lost in the jar.

Jar the product, along with a Caliber III hygrometer. One can be had on Ebay for ~$20. Having tested a number of hygrometers - digital and analog - this model in particular produced consistent, accurate results. Then, watch the readings:

+70% RH - too wet, needs to sit outside the jar to dry for 12-24 hours, depending.

65-70% RH - the product is almost in the cure zone, if you will. It can be slowly brought to optimum RH by opening the lid for 2-4 hours.

60-65% RH - the stems snap, the product feels a bit sticky, and it is curing.

55-60% RH - at this point it can be stored for an extended period (3 months or more) without worrying about mold. The product will continue to cure.

Below 55% RH - the RH is too low for the curing process to take place. The product starts to feel brittle. Once you've hit this point, nothing will make it better. Adding moisture won't restart the curing process; it will just make the product wet. If you measure a RH below 55% don't panic. Read below:

Obviously, the product need time to sweat in the jar. As such, accurate readings won't be seen for ~24 hours, assuming the flowers are in the optimal cure zone. If you're curing the product for long-term storage, give the flowers 4-5 days for an accurate reading. If the product is sill very wet, a +70% RH reading will show within hours. If you see the RH rising ~1% per hour, keep a close eye on the product, as it's likely too moist.

Purchased 2 500 spectra to replace air cooled1000w digilux hps on a light mover. Was getting about 1.5 pound chocolope. I hope my 2800$$ investment was worth it. Area is 5x4. I still have another 5x4 area where I have the same hps setup. Will compare yeild in next few months. Irishboy. What are your expectations for me as far as yield

eh...i still dont think 2 500's will out do a 1000w in terms of yield. The spectras are good, and DAMN good in fact, however still not as good as their equiv HIDs.

Why did u make the switch?

Lumitek ballast broke. So now I thought. This is a good as time is any to switch. I would like to hear some more people weighin one they think the yield comparison would be. Irish boy would know better than anyone. How much led would i need the to equal1000 watt hps?

It's really hard to say since there's so many factors involved. There was a side by side grow with a 300w spectra LED vs 400 hps. Led yielded a little more, not a whole lot. The consensus seems to be that LEDs make the buds a little more frosty too. I think watt for watt, the spectras match hps. But you still have to factor in strain, growing conditions, etc.

Btw Irish got over a pound of bud with his old 600w spectra :hump:
