you'll want to look at the buds.. the trics to me look like a lil lolipop looking thing.. its like a stalk with a nice head on the top.. this is where the thc is at.. at first, the heads are a very clear color, and as they age, they will change to a cloudy color.. this cloudy color mean that the thc is reaching its peak potency.. after cloudy comes amber, and amber means that the thc is starting to degrade and turn into things like cbd and other compounds.. this is what gives you the couch lock stone common with indica's.. the clearer, give you a more up high.. most people like to wait till they start to see a good amount of amber as it lets you know that most of the thc has reached peak potency. ..
you can always cut a few buds off at different times, and make a note of what color they were when cut, dry and cure them.. then go ahead and give them a smoke test.. this will give you an idea of where you like your trics to be at without having to cut down all of the buds only to find out that you would have preferred them at another stage..
