We really got to get the us to start making some changes. We need alternate energy really really bad. My state is currently fighting agianst wind power off the coast fucking idiots. How hard is it to realize renewable safe energy is good. Fucking idiot politicians to busy lining their fucking pockets. Argh makes me pissed, i cant smoke enough to be fucked up like these assholes.

I agree that we need to be working on renewable technology but we need to remember that there are many problems with renewable energy at this point. First off is cost. It's still cheaper to produce energy from coal, oil, and nuclear. Fossil fuels and nuke energy is much cheaper per kilowatt, which means affordable for you and me. Also, when the wind isn't blowing or the sun isn't shining, you don't have power (or not much). Wind and solar rely on batteries to continue providing power during these times. These batteries are extremely expensive and not great for the environment. Hydroelectric power relies on building expensive dams which is having enormous impact on the environment and fish populations. Also, it's not available in places that don't have rivers sufficient to dam up. Geothermal is also not available everywhere. Lots of problems as you can see.

Anyone hear about that dude who can make solarpanels out of human hair? Each panel can produce around 19watts and they cost around 30bucks!

if you have kids one way to teach em is put a generater on a exercise bike .....make em peddle to watch tv or use computer...........it will teach em about energy and get them exercise and what they really want they work for. will save a bit on elecctric bill and show em.....shrug....its a start.

I doubt the war in Iraq, Afghanistan and now the revolutions happening in the middle east are going to be for nothing, The globalists are well aware of what's left and they will suck every ounce of moola out of the fossil fuels long before they turn to renewable energy. Hence why no real drive to develop on a global scale. Renewable energy is slow in coming for these reasons. Add to it the fact that if you had to change from fossil fuel to a different energy source it would mean trillions and decades for industry to implement new systems.

We talk of being in a info tech age but really we are still laboured with the industrial revolution. Or is that just again highlighting the gap between the western world and the rest of the poor buggers out there....

It's like this; they KNOW wind & solar are they only two viable options but as stated previously, all their money is tied up in these obsolete infrastructures (oil, nuclear) so they have to wring every last cent they can out of the consumer before they admit defeat and retool their entire delivery systems. In the future all cell phones are solar. Hell, almost everything is. and Geothermal is big too.

This is true only because adequate money and time has not been spent researching these sources, had proper research been done in the sixties and seventies, we would be well on our way now.....but why would the energy tycoons want to slaughter their cash cow?

(edit) somethings going to happen in our life time, it can't keep on like this, especially if we do get hit with any serious solar flares from the sun...which has happened many times in the past, but prior to us having based our civilization on the need for hydro!

amen brother amen.

Nuke power is not bad, geez. Can you say over reaction. Aside from chernobyl, a poorly built russian plant, there has not been a major problem. Even with the meltdown at TMI it was contained. Well built plants like the ones in the US, Japan, & France will stand up to 99% of what mothernature can throw at them, even now in the face of sever tragidy the Japanese plants are holding their own. It kills me how people who have no real clue about what they are talking about (true ignorance) can have such strong opinions. Would any of you go without power as a trade for shutting them down? How about $.30+ cents a kwh for your new alt energy at levels that can supply enough for current demand? So keep bitching all while running your lights, fans, ur fridge, you AC, your hot water heater, xbox, charge your cell phone, or watch your big screen tv. Give me a break.

what about the waste byproduct and its affect on the planet(true'r ingonance)...or did we forget about that? and people bitching is what lets others know that you feel the same way....a great way for groups with the same iedeology to get together and make a change!

Guys I cannot believe you have not seen what is happening in Japan right now with 2 reactors exploding their out shells in Fukushima post the tsunami!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not saying having them is bad but is has implications that are VERY HARD TO CONTAIN once breached.
