Over drying

I harvested my first about 4 days ago, trimmed and hung the buds. I put them in jars to cure but after burping twice i have noticed that the buds seem extremely dry. How do i tell if the buds are too dry and what do i do to fix that?

Its too dry, or dried too fast, if you open the jar and smell it (always smell the jar when you open) and it smells like sour hay. If it smells like that its overly dry. Luckily here in hawaii when i dry with airconditioning and jar, then take to cure when i open to burp it GAINS water doesn't lose it, so here for me its hard to overdry, but i understand you guys on the mainland got low humidity and gotta be careful of that. If you live in a desert, cure when the stem bends, if you live in the tropics then dry as much as possible till stems snap then cure. Hope that helps but who knows. whats your Relative Humidity where you live?

Right now its pretty high because it has been raining. Inside my house tho its holding around 40%. Is there anyway of moistening it up again by putting leaves from a plant in there?

Put some orange peel in the jars....jus small peices tho a lil goes along way. WARNING (dont leave it overnight) make sure you check em frequently or you could cause mold, it will rehyrdate pretty quick that way. When the buds are to your liking take out the orange peel and yur done. The orange smell will hang around to.

you dont have to use just orange peels..you can use lemons, pomegranate rind or grapefruit...you get the picture tho

You can also refresh a jar of overly dry weed with, get this, a fresh fan leaf! OMG!...... lol

Get a hygrometer, one for each cure jar.... You want to hang dry and then jar when the RH is about 70 in the jars. Then start burping them down to 55% RH and stop and store... I use cheap reptile hygrometers.

I've heard of putting a small orange peel in the jar but you gotta watch for mold, it adds a citrusy flavor due to the moisture entering the bud coming from the orange peel. Where i live today is 82% RH. So I personally like to over dry them with air conditioning and a dehumidifier, and then when I cure them and burp them they actually balance with the humidity as they cure. tho doing that in anywhere under 60% i would think would be detremental. I also found that when I dont use air conditioning or dehumidifier in my area the buds tend to mold after a couple months in the jars.

With growing your own everything is relative.

Sometimes I get a cotton swab and dip both sides in water then tape it to the top of the jar, leave it over night and the dry buds will absorb the moisture.
