1 400w hps? yeah, but make sure to get a bulb with added blue spectrum. If you cant find any that are not like 20-30 more than a regular hps bulb let me know, i know a few places where you can get em cheaper. in fact i think i'll just give you the link to where i get my grow stuff and the light i would advise. it has a remote ballast which means it can be get outside the grow area, the ballast makes up a good bit of an hps's heat output. i chose to get the air cooled hood and would advise it as well, w/it i can keep it 4-6 inches from the tops, without it its like 12-16 inches away. i use a 4 in 270 cfm fan from their ebay store (name=htgsupply)for 50, if you look they always have a few up for 50, so its not hard to get them, thats how i got 2 of my fans. anyway also get the high output bulb option, its only 4 more than a normal hps bulb and it has an added blue spectrum and 55,000 lumens instead of 50,000. if/when you get your light from them make sure to email them and ask for a discount from them, they have never said no to me everytime ive bought from them ive asked, saved hundreds. heres the light

Use CFLs instead of an hps, unless you plan to vent or exhaust out all that heat the 400watt hps creates. CFLs for vegetation growth is in the 6500kelvin range and flowering in the 2700kelvin range. I use the large spiral CFLs for all 3 of my grows. I use 85watts, 105watts, 65watts, 42watts and even the 26watt range, btw that's real wattage...check my grow journals for usage of CFLs

ive found it easier to control the heat from my 400w hps compared to the cfls i was using personally, 10-20 big cfls put out alot of heat in a more spread out area, the hps hoods fan sucks the heat right out. i was very happy when i switched to 400w hps instead of 800w of cfls. Just my personal experience.
