Lighting penetration is key for dense nugs but heat can be an issue because in order to get good penetration you need to have the light closer and try to get the best lumen output possible. I have also used gravity from humbolt county and the thing works great and is pretty cheap just read the instructions and move your light up. A word of advice feed your plants water the feeding before you add the gravity or you might risk nute burn.

I'd agree with everyone on the thread; light intensity and penetration, nutrients and genetics pretty much determine bud density. Also, using CO2 will produce fuller, denser nugs but that's only if everything else is perfect and you have a sealed grow room. Something I would recommend trying is molasses, some people say it's BS but I've definitely noticed my buds have been bigger since I started using it. EM-1, a microbial innoculant, is a good way to keep your roots healthy (important for bud development) and molasses is included as food for the microbes. Hope this helped!

Ventilation, ventilation, ventilation... if your room is muggy, stagnant, or unhealthy in any way, your plants (out of fear of mold) will produce thinner, whispier buds. If you can't control your ventilation adequately, at least pump some CO2 into the room to counter some of the negative effects.

Very good point, ventilation is definitely a huge determinant. Even if your temperature and humidity are low enough without air circulation, having a fan blowing on your plants will help keep spores and parasites from getting a good hold on your plants (and an infestation can destroy your bud quality).
