In New York City, five major Italian-American Mafia families dominate organized crime activities:

■ Bonnano crime family

■ Columbo crime family

■ Gambino crime family

■ Genovese crime family

■ Luchese crime family

While the Mafia–also known as La Cosa Nostra--may no longer possess the robust national presence and influence it once had, it remains a significant threat in the extended New York metropolitan area, New England, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Detroit.

I personally, support these old school gangsters. They're the last of a true breed.. that will never return. Now a days, you just have these wanna-be gangsters.. which 90% of the time its just some jr high/high school kids that are in that time of their lives where they don't even know who they are yet.. but let me tell ya.. you'll never be a TRUE gangster. Besides.. why would you want to try and be a gangster for?! Look at all the old 'TRUE GANGSTERS'. Like 'Al Capone'; Lucky Luciano; or 'Mustache Pete' Maranzano. They all three were notorious gangsters.. some of the first few guys that were responsible for actually creating 'organized crime families' or also known as the 'Mafia'. But.. my point is.. look what happened to them (as well as many others). They either ended up dead.. or in prison. Those are the two things you can expect to get out of being a 'gangster'.

My other point is.. is unless your in an organized crime family... your not a gangster. Not even close.

just had to get that off my chest..

peace.

yea the true mobsters were few of a dying breed, now some nignog will shoot you over an 1/8th of schwag. My dad and gma tell of times growing up in the bronx and brooklyn and said the mob ruled all, but it wasnt a fear, the mob made them feel actually secure. it was more of neighbor lookin out for eachother instead of gun toting pussie "defending turf", yea jump some hipster with an ipod bc they are walking around your area.

my grandfather was an italian mobster. i sincerely doubt he was mafia but it was definately "organized crime". he lived well into his 80s and still made young kids shit bricks. he never talked about it but when he got together with his friends everyone around them got real respectful all of a sudden. i have a photo of him and his buddies in front of an italian market in the 40's. it looks straight out of a movie, suits, hats, trenchcoats, the faces, the whole 9. his last gangster act to my knowledge was shooting at a man who stiffed him on some driveway job. he was 82 LOL. interestingly, no police were involved. when he died we found about 7 handguns and 3 shotguns, plus his WW 2 military issued weapons. i met some very interesting old italian guys over the years. it's true, they are the "real" gangsters. they had a code and they really believed in respect, not like this fake self-satisfying "respect" among today's hoodrat gangs. back in the day if you targeted women and children your own crew would fuck you up and disown you. now they make you a "shot caller". fine by me because today's gangs will never rise to the level of the real mafia because they don't know how to cooperate and take orders. they rule by sheer numbers, not skill. they advertise their buisiness with all that flamboyant shit then retalliate on people when they get caught. wankstas to the extreme. how many modern crime "families" do you see with real old dudes still running shit? and correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm not aware of any mafia family with a 22 year old shot caller. you need to earn that shit and you aren't gonna do it by 22.

I use to live in Chicago and I actually miss the mafia. Their presence isn't nearly as significant as it used to be. But, I think they still run the city, because of all the problems of corruption you hear coming out of Chicago, its usually big time corruption where most their government is involved and really only the mob can create that type of pressure on a body of the US government. The mobs always been much more classy, and seems to be much more "organized" crime, then gang violence which tends to get out of hand quick. Just what I've noticed from living in both Chicago and now North Texas.

Express...its spelled Italian.

Also some nignogs in prison sneaking messages isn't organized. Why the fuck is your leader in jail in the first place? Ya they sell a lot of dope. If they didn't someone else would be doing it. It sells itself. No one is telling these peons from jail that jerry on 28th needs some rock.

The difference between crips and legitimate mafia memebers is that one isnt 17 with a gun shooting kids.

You've missed the point of the OP... these gangs you speak of are nothing like the families of yesteryear. For one, no respect, women and children are just as much of a target as a man. Two, they deal in vices that a respectable man would never touch, human trafficking for instance.

The people you speak of are worth less than dirt... to become a member of these gangs you mention means to stick your tail between your legs and then get it up the ass every day. The common man gets no respect, but in a family it is the opposite. From Capo's to Sgarrista's every man gets the respect he deserves from being a member of this family... in a world of crime without respect, the Italian families do, and always will have my blessings... the thuggish street gangs you're talking about, those that are members in these gangs are as lowlife as it comes. All they know is getting money and as long as the end (more money) justifies the means (human trafficking) they will do whatever it takes to get it... and for that they get no respect from me, or anyone else in this world.

I'd wager their own mothers don't even respect them...
