Led Users Unite!

What's the big thing with auto flowers? Just quicker to harvest from seed?,i always thought you cant get much yield from them but then again, ive never grown them. Will have to check out your journal and how they're doing.

Love seeing led journals and their hidden agendas lmao

Seems like some on each side of the debate have an agenda.

I just added an LED to my grow after growing under solely HID for 20+ years. I have no agenda, i dont represent any company that sells lights or any kind of grow gear. I only post what I see/know from my own personal experience.

In my opinion HID is still superior to LED, though I think that will change in the future. I can say without a doubt that LED lighting does serve a purpose if you are worried about electricity use (inline fans, ducting etc.), thats why I added an LED to my flowering chamber.

The LED raised my flowering room temp 2 degrees, I was able to keep my ventilation as it was; no need for more fans or ducting. I will say that my plants do seem to really like the combination of HPS and LED lighting together. I had a 150 HPS alongside the 400 HPS until I bought the LED, the LED is having much more of an impact than the 150 watt HPS and none of the added heat to deal with.

It seems to me a combination of HID and LED is real beneficial..

For a 4x4 space you should probably get 2 smaller LED units instead of one super/big one. Like I said, if my tent had been that big I would have gone with 2 Spectra 2011 240w units which is what Irishboy is doing (I don't know if that is how big his tents are but he is going all Spectra 240w units). And those lights actually draw 240w, a lot of companies will call their units say '300w' and yet they only draw 150w which really makes them only a 150w unit. You gotta watch out for that, it seems Blackstar may be misleading people this way (at least with some of their models?)

I agree 100%, interlacing the spectrums is key. I'd go with multiple panels like I am running, works awesome.
 
the one on the right. I say this because this is the problem i ran into before. Their isnt enought ultra violet in led to really push the buds. You get good weed. But the stress isnt their in terms of trichrome production. But this is starting to change with newer lights. I would say that buds are supposed to be larger and more elongated than Hid. So it could still easily be the left one. But i think its the right.

This is what i wanted to do really. use two kessil magentas for lower canopy and side lighting for true penetration and a blackstar ufo blue/white for enhanced spectrum. and a 126w penetrator or 120 watt grow led hydro. The seem to be competitors. I am going to run a journal on here in march. and i will be using 3 diff companies. as i believe some ppl do have agendas. there are reps on every forum. just the way it goes. Not that big of a problem, cuz you can usually smell the bullshit right away. something about how someone types...too formal...smells like bullshit. especially when numbers get thrown around. but you have to stay positive, it is the internet. For every road their are pot holes and police, you just need to know the back roads. you learn that from experience, research and a map.

I don't think you should go below 200w for spaces 2ft x 2ft or larger. I hear a lot of good things about UFOs and Blackstar. The only thing I have against Blackstar is they appear to be misleading people about the true wattage of their lights (or maybe that has more to do with who is selling the blackstar?)

The brands I hear the best things about are Isis, Spectra, Kessil, and UFO
 
I think go with what you want to spend as todays panel will be obsolete in a couple of years if we all wish to stay with the newest tech in LED's. Here is my first attempt what do you think for under 18 inch canopy and just the 240 Black Star I only use the CF L's to try and take pics then I swing them out of the way. But I like other have low heat issues now that I have made so changes to my ventilation system and the cold weather doesn't help. I agree with all the personal preferences by our forum members but in the end you get quite frankly the same spec LED modules from different manufactures some expensive some not and guess what, they all produce so IMHO I would buy or recommend the Black Star 240 to my friends after first hand experiance with it. Does the 240 Blackstar actually draw 240w from an outlet or around half that? I don't doubt they are good lights but I have doubts from reading posts about people with blackstars that were running at half power. And that wouldn't be because of a defective unit, it would be because they are getting the sum of the wattage of the LEDs and not the actual draw. As in a '300w' light has 100 3w LEDS, in reality though they can only run at about half power which means such a 300w light may only really be a 150w light. Some companies mislead this way and others don't. I think Blackstar makes good LED lights but I think they are misleading people this way.

Not to start a flame war as this isnt a diss to anyone of russian descent, my wife is russian and im quite pleased with that product wink wink.

But this guy that sells them is last name rylkov, i wont say his first name to protect his privacy and to protect my self. some russians can be quite sleazy, along the lines of an investment banker. Most russians are very kind and hospitable. so im not flaming. Not that there arent american dicks too. I just know that they tend to pirate quite a bit. and they arent far from china. so you might just be getting chinese bunk with this stuff. who knows. Journals will tell the truth. I have a veg/clone model 2011 blackstar. so as ive said. time will tell.
 
I'm currently flowering under 7 CFL's but my buddie ordered me a red spectrum LED grow board.. its small we are excited to see if it will do anything at all? im gonna continue to use the CFL's but now move like 2 of them on the sides so i'll have 4 on the sides 3 on top with the LED.. anyone try something like this before? howd it work out?

seeing as how most LED grow lights advertise their maximum wattage and not their running wattage, seems like the industry standard for the most part. THere are a few companies that don't do that.

Thats the right way to put it, I just couldn't think of the way to phrase is properly.

I have a 400 watt equiv LED I have been using. Anyone give me a ball park on how many small mothers I could hold under this ????
 
Correct me if I am wrong but watts = amps x volts correct? Seeing as how voltage varies (110, 220 - as most LED light can be used on both) you would yield different wattages. I think that most suppliers advertise the maximum wattage as that is the only concrete number to go off. The person with the blackstar that did this is the only person I have seen that have done such research. I can imagine that more companies then people would like to admit are doing just the same. We have found maybe 2 or 3 that don't I believe.

Seeing as how manufactures create lights that run at different voltages (and I am no electrician im just throwing shit out there) then they yield different wattages, but about the same light. So I would imagine they advertise the maximum running wattage as that is the only concrete number there is to go off of. There are several companies that do this and don't advertise the actual draw as it varies.
