250 watt metal halide too much for seedlings?

I have rapid rooter plugs and a 5x10 starter tray.
I have the humidity dome that came with the package and currently have 2 bag seeds (doing pretty nice!) and 5 sterling haze femenized seeds that I acquired from Nirvana(seeds seemed very small.. almost immature) but they have all started to take root, 3 of which have broken from the seed.

I keep the light about 8 inches above the humidity dome, and have placed one of the seedlings(which ran out of room from the starter plug) into a a bit larger plastic pot(will include with pictures) and placed ontop of the dome. She *fingers crossed* is now 5 inches below the light, with two floor fans keeping the temperature at a steady 74 degrees. I have not started using ANY nutrients and am beginning to wonder if I should start using half a tspn of verde as a foliar spray.
She is beginning to grow her second pair of true leaves I just want to make sure I'm not slowly damaging her.. :-(

I am also wondering if the light is too much for the Nirvana seedlings.. one of which has broken out of the seed, but has a spiraling stem deformity.. I have tried to straighten her by patting down the area around the rapid rooter(was this bad?) and some of the stem seem very light green to light yellow and white.. Well I will post pictures and hopefully I will get some much needed advice :weed:

I am a newbie but thought i would try and help you out as getting an answer on this site sometimes is like getting blood out of a stone! I put my seedlings under my 250w hps at about 3 days from breaking ground, they were about 21 inches away from the light and i had no problem at all. Im not an expert but everything looks fine to me, dont be tempted by taking that shell off! leave it be. You would notice if they aint happy, i gave mine some canna rhizotonic to give the roots a bit of a boost and cant recommend it enough.

as soon as mine popped up i put em straight under a 600w HPS and they loved it untill i nute burned em lol but they were ok in the end

You should be fine as long as your light isn't too close to them. Probably a good 20-24 inches above them should be fine, and you can lower it once they get bigger.

Scooby, I'll probably look up the canna rhizotonic today after work, (haha phones are the best!) at my local hydroponics store. Thank you guys for your recommendations, and now I raised my light to 14 inches above the humidity tent, (so 11 inches above the little plant) I'll keep this thread posted with picture for the rest of the grow, happy gardening guys!

Well.. it's been 4 days since these pictures, and this thread, I will post pictures in a bit, but here are my few general questions..
All 5 sterling haze seeds have popped out of their shells, and I have placed 4 into small pots, and kept one in the humidity tray.

My biggest bag seed seems to be drooping and the cotyledon seem to be turning yellow.. The plant is getting it's second set of leaves which is three fingered..(but the drooping is bothering me)

Another one of my concerns is, my sterling haze plants seem to be getting slightly pink/red/greenish stem.. I'm not sure what this can mean, and any suggestions would be GREATLY apprectiated

Looks like you're drowning them, and/or the water PH is off. The grow plugs should be moist, not soaked, as I'm suspecting they are, especially towards the base, where to new roots are trying to get established.


Just a hunch.... :)

jawbrodt, actually they were pretty much fine with just the plugs, all of them have been in soil for about 5 days.

Oooh I am lovin your fine ladies :D
I'm going to be doing some manual labor soon (reamping my grow space, probably moving a lot of stuff) and will post some more pics of her this upcoming weekend,
My ph runs about 6.5 but I sadly have a nonelectronic pH tester.. I'll buy an electronic one soon, but this will have to do for now

I'm also ganna ask about any soil recommendations, I'm not diggin'(hahahaha get it!) my soil, I feel it dries out too frequently, and I'm not trying to water them everyday

Go to a bigger pot, and the soil will stay damp much longer. Drainage is a good thing, 'cause you won't have to worry about overwatering issues, if your soil dries our quickly. Don't knock it. :wink:

since switching to hydro, I couldn't be any happier,
I acquired a raspberry cough girlly from my buddy, since when he put her into flowering, she became ill..

Since then, she's fully recovering, and my sterling haze girls are looking sweeet ;-)

Any advice from here on would be appreciated, thanks!
