400watt?

i have a box that is 20x30 36inch high is a 400watt light too much if i put the light on top?

3 feet? if plants stay 18in from the light the whole time and temps are kept at 85F, or u liquid cool the hps

but thats not a whole lotta growing room cuz plants cant get too close to that bulb

better off utilizing LED lighting in such a small area... get the most lumens without frying your plants

instead of spending tons of money on LEDS that arent even proven to work as good as the alternitive, why not just get a more suitable place to grow properly in?? I mean ya you could spend hours and hours and tons of money figureing out how to grow in a shoe box or you could just grow the right way in a space suitable for growing.......In the long run you will thank yourself for not blowing money on a grow that yeilds only an amount that you could have just payed for the weed for the same cost..

there are lots of reasons... sometimes you just need to stick it out in a small space until you can upgrade to a larger one... i have heard good things about the LED, when used in small spaces. used in larger spaces they would be silly (unless used to increase light spectrum in conjunction with HIDs). but you will save a shit ton of electricity growing in a small space with an LED if a small space is your only option.

sounds like your headed in the righ direction......... to give you some perspective....i grow in an aprtment with one 4x4 tent and one 1000w light....my last cycle yielded a pound and half.....dosent that sound better than a few ounces?? im just saying the amount you can yeild in a modest well put togeather tent could support your weed habbit for a a whole year if not more......just do it right the first time and you will SAVE so much money and time.....ya theres people doing grows with less money and smaller space but i bet they have to grow 2-3 cycles to equal one good yeilding cycle in a proper put togeather grow...so in the end there not really saving money

Or you could just bump it down a notch and go with a 250. You have options, but the 400 in that space isn't one of them.

.....when picking a tent size good rule of thumb is 1000w=4x4 600w=3.5x3.5 400w=3x3 now some will say those numbers varify but in general i think thats the best scale ive seen or heard so far.....ive heard a 1000w=6x6 but i know that just ant so so maybe 5x5 tops if you had a wide hood but then you would loose some penetration due to the light being spread out more....

if you go 400w id eather find a 3x3 tent or a 2x4 tent what ever fits better..anyting bigger then that would be too big for your light..IMO......

man I say go for it but only if you have a air cooled hood I have one 400watt hps and a 175 watt mh in a 4 by 2 room in air cooled hoods with a 4 inch inline fan blowing though a charcoal filter the tops of my plants are from four to eight inches away from the hood and I have absolutly no heat issues and the plants love it but you will only have about two decent size plants in there but train them lst and keep the canopy level and the light as even as possible and you will do fine(if you have no means of ventilation then do not get the 400w)
