I used to spend a couple of hours making custom insulated reservoirs out of 3/4" rigid foam and a Sterilite container covered in aluminum tape and weather stripping. Even though they sort of worked, they were flimsy, inefficient and hard to move around.
$8.99 for the cooler, $0.75 for the 2" rigid foam, $0.50 for the panda film, a netpot and hydroton and lastly no more than 10 minutes of labor and I have a new setup ready for a plant! By the way this cooler comes with a removable spigot for easy cleaning and a handy carrying handle. Even when filled with water the whole thing weighs less than 15 lbs.
