Hydro vs. Soil for newbie

Your grow is phenomenal! What hydro system would you advise me to do for a first grow? I'm planning on spending around $800-$1000. I've painted the room in a flat white. Should I inclose the entire room in panda plastic? I was planning on putting up a false wall and spitting the rooms with panda plastic, just not sure if the entire room needs to be covered. Is 400w enough for 4-8 plants? THanks for all the help!!

i did my first grow in hydro and i checked my plants regularly. Ph flucuations, problems with hydroton clogging my pumps, keeping your roots at an optimum temperature. I wouldn't trust my plants for more than 8 hours without checking them. Try half and half, thats what i'm doing this time. I'll keep you all posted on my progress.

i did my first grow in hydro and went off just fine not amazing yields but it worked and for a learning curve it was awesome now well im still in hydro and never going enything else for sure. like everyone says its definitely not rocket science it just takes a little work for someone who is lazy as hell i could see a issue. it makes me laugh how people talk about forgiving this and that and well let me tell you i just had my kids for two weeks and did no water changes or checks at all the water was very low and ppm's where very high ph was 7.4 and prably been that way for a while plants where still file a little brown but still running strong now let me tell you something else it took me about 30 min to correct this problem i would love to see soil do that

I grow in soil and all I do is water, thats it. If I can't get to them once a week the auto water kicks in and keeps going, but my issue is the lights need to be moved up. O did I mention all I do is water once a week. No I don't Ph and my well water is 7.8 but the soil is self adjusting so I just water. Lets me spend my time doing shit I want, not messing with adjusting this and that. Don't get me wrong I did hydro for years but I wanted more time and less bugs and better tasting weed so moved to dirt, not a dig at hydro, just the way it worked out for me. Both work just different approaches.

dont quite understand how the weed tastes better where you growing shitty strain in hydro??? taste and smell are dependent on you and how you dry and cure and what kind of hydro where you running and where you flushing???? just cause you couldnt catch on to hydro still doesnt make it hard and dont know about you but i WANT to be with my ladies this isnt a forceful hobby its what i love to do. and for bugs well dam i think i can say confidentially bugs enjoy soil more than hydro not certain though lol.

I started with soil years and years ago and it always had problems with pests and it grew so, so SLOW even with proper nutes and lights.

For Hydro Most people say go DWC for easy hydro, but I disagree DWC is a pain to clean and change out, the ph and temps always swing wildly and you can't scrog easily and can have root rot problems from all the roots standing in water. I'd say go drip or ebb n flow. I'd rather clean out a drip hose once every 3 weeks than have to constantly mess with pests and ph, rez temps and a bucket of rooting roots.

IMO hydro is the way to make great plants quickly at lower costs than the energy and effort you will waste with soil. You just have to be willing to invest a little in proper equipment and you will be fine.

Soil may be more forgiving in the sense that if you screw up you won't know it till weeks later but with hydro if you screw up you will be able to resolve the issue immediately instead of weeks later when you will have no clue why they are sad.

What's up dr. green. Glad to see support for hydro coming out in force. However, as to your inquiry, the reason soil buds generally taste better is because they have a higher amount of terpenes. Terpenes and terpenoids are the primary constituents of essential oils. I know that doesn't really explain why they have more, and I haven't done much research on it. That would be a nice question for someone here to answer for all us lazy people. Maybe it's because you can go 100% organic with soil and not hydro. There's been a lot of discussion about "organic hydro" but from what I deduced out of that whole topic was that true organic hydro is possible but ridiculously impractical. Certain organic processes and life can't be sustained while suspended in water for very long so you would have to change your res every two days. Plus it might not be the organic factor that increases terpene production.
