fdd is correct, have fun with it, the whole idea is to open up more of the bud sites to brightest light.

This is a plant bent all of the way over when young, this helps turn the bottom branch into cola almost as big as the main cola.
The stem is on the right, on the left is a pantyhose tie down anchor.

Early Transplanting

I was just looking at my plants which currently stand at 2" tall, and thought i could see a root at the bottom of the pot. Does it matter if the plant is still quite small to transplant it to another bigger pot, one that it can spend the rest of its days in?

ok guys and gals thanks for the comments. and how cant it help a small plant that grown from a seed thats around 3 weeks old witch would be anywhere from 4-5 inchs it would start training it and then you could keep the plant goining in a cfl shape till its done, you understand what i mean the cork screw shape all the way around the planter and train it around and up. if that makes sence.

Just thought i'd put up a picture of one of my Hindu Kush plants that I have done the LST with. the *main cola is right in the front of the pic.

this is mind blowing to me, ive never heard of this. i started from seed and im about 4 inches tall maybe if that, but i got good leaf growth but my stems are still really small in girth should i give it a couple more weeks and than begin to do this, also can you go a little more in depth of a step by step way to do so for i dont injure my plant.

Well what I have done is drill a screw into the pot then just tie one end of string to the screw, loop it around the stem and tie the other end of the string to the same screw. I pull the string as tight as the plant will let me, these plants are very flexible but be careful not to hurt them. I do this in a few different places on the plant to get the shape I like. Take a look at this picture and you can see I have tied it in 3 places to get the shape I wanted, almost a S shaped plant.

it works great. let me dig thru some photos and see what i can find. i will take more tonight.
i use stainless steel wire. thin but stiff. i take a piece a couple inches long, bend little hooks on each end. then i hook the top of the plant about 2 nodes down. then i take and bend her aaaaaaaalllllllllll the way over and hook the other end to the bottom of her stalk. it makes a big bow. i nbend then just to the point of the stalk folding. i guess this would be called HST.
others i top and hook the wires to the edges of the pots instead of the main stem. if you top you can hook several branches to the pot. this really opens up the center.

these were topped and spread open.

way to dig this thread up
really! Drag up this thread! And I'm loving it! I did LST on a plant that I planted back in November, then I scrogged it because it got so, so bushy. This is not only really productive, it's FUN.

Now, I am no expert, trust me on that ;-) but I don't think you need to wait too long to do this. The stems should still be very pliable; otherwise, you'll snap it. I didn't bother drilling holes, just used some scissors to put small holes in the sides of my pot, then used string (dental floss, kite string, even wire) to secure the plant to the sides/perimeter of the pot. Then I've had to repot twice, and the darned thing is enormous with buds, but a really compact plant. And the stalk is just amazing, really thick and all bent up looking. Oh, that reminds me, I also tried my hand at super cropping in a couple of spots on this plant, so I've got three "manipulative" things going on with just the one plant. Very easy, interesting, and looks like it could be productive.

hey fdd bro . hows it going . i was just wondering if mabey you had any pics of the plants you stripped the lower growth. id like to try stuff like that but im not sure what to pull off.
is it ok to pull off the lowest leafs on my plants, they are just sitting in the soil getting necrotic anyway. but i know when you start yanking shit and cutting things you start to change the plant , and i saw a nightmare situation where someone thought it was good to pull all the fan leafs off. the plant ended up with one tiny nugget on top. it was pathetic. i get scared im gonna stunt the plants growth...any advise on this is big time appreciated. should i just cut the leaf to where its healthy and let the plant use up the energy from that fan leaf?

This is my 3'rd grow now and im growin 4 plants, ... Im training 2 as we speak and its been about 2 weeks and you can clearly tell the diff between the other 2. the 2 that are training are bushy as shit and theres another 2 shoots growing straight up that im assuming will bud along with the main head that was tie down and theyre still growing at a normal speed so yea...
