Fan Speed Controllers?

.. anyone hear familar with them? i thought that i have read in the past that these can't be used on all types of fans, like maybe one style of can fans is the brush style, and other styles are just an electric motor, but i don't quite remember the details of this, or even if this is correct at all..
i have a super nice can fan for my grow and my carbon filter, but i have never used it as its just entirely way too loud on full speed.. i don't remember what brand fan mine is, but could easily find out if need be..
so, does anyone out there know if what i've read about the controllers are correct, or what the dilly is? as it is, i'm only using a super cheapo booster fan for my filter, and its a complete joke to say the least..
any info would be greatly appreciated..

You can buy Rheostats from Lowes, Home Depot, and probably any local hardware store. You will need to wire it yourself so be careful and pay attention when doing so.

There are 2 types of fan controllers. Brushless and the ones that deal with fans that have brushes.

I would find the manufacturer and see if you can send them an e-mail requesting the type of controller that is needed for that model of inline fan.

I don't recall reading any info for a can type fan that says whether the motor is brushless or not. Are you sure you don't mean balanced motors? Vortex motors for their fans are balanced, I don't know of any other fans that state their fans are balanced.

Regardless, I would also go with one of the 'router' type speed controllers. I have three of them they work just fine and as mountainfarmer says, they are plug and play.
