I know this is old but thanks for the post, i'm gonna need it in 90 days or so haha! thanks againperfect! here goes. homer371's cannabutter recipe (lol), designed for trimmings and/or vape left-overs
what you'll need:
- small or medium size pot
- cheese cloth (can use an old but *clean* t-shirt or sock, but cheese cloth is ideal)
- tupperware or bowl
- rubber band
- 1 stick of butter
- 5 grams of dried trim (3 days in a paper bag after harvest should be enough)
- 1-2 cups of water
important ratio to keep in mind
- 25:1 butter to trim (weight)
- i usually use 1 stick of butter (about 100 grams) for 4 or 5 grams of trim. scale up or down depending on what you got.
STEPS:
0. grind the herb if you can. don't worry if you can't.
1. put the butter and water in the cup and heat on medium until butter melts. the water will keep butter from burning. alternatively you can use a double boiler or a crock pot, but adding water works just fine for me.
3. when the mixture starts boiling, turn heat to simmer (lowest possible setting) and add the ground trim.
4. simmer unconvered for AT LEAST 1 hour, ideally 2-4. it helps to stir every 10 minutes or so. keep the vent on! this will definitely stink up your kitchen, and possibly your whole house...
Important: if the mixture reduces too much (in other words, if a lot of the water evaporates), ADD MORE WATER. Very important to not let the butter burn.
5. let cool for about 5-10 minutes
6. fold a large piece of cheese in two, cover the tupperware, and secure with rubber band. very slowly pour the greenish liquid + trim through the cheese cloth into the tupperware. carefully wrap the cheese cloth around the the trim that didn't go through and slowly squeeze and turn until every drop has gone inside the tupperware. get rid of the extra trim (definitely do not put it in with the rest of the butter).
7. put a lid on the tupperware and put in fridge overnight. it'll usually take about 6-10 hours for the excess water to separate from the butter. once it's cool, you can just remove the green butter from the top, clean it up, discard the nasty water, and store it in a bag for up to a month.
you can use it in any butter recipe -- just don't burn it. you can use it in a brownie mix or just spread it on toast!
to give you an idea of potency, i find: 1 gram of trim = 1 fairly strong dose. so i get 4-5 doses with 1 stick of butter. this depends on the quality of the trim, and a million other factors, but that is ball park.
good luck, let me know if it works out for you!
