He was asking you to defend your position.

I could go put up a bunch of links but 99% of the time my sources just get attacked. Doesnt benefit me at all. Decided to stop taking the time to do it as my efforts so seldom go rewarded... Kinda like adding all those useless apostrophies.
my position is, ........................

there is nothing of any content in this thread to be ranting about. most the people here don't even understand what happened. until someone tosses it out there i have nothing to defend, other then you all are being dramatic.

AP Via MSNBC:
WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal court threw the future of Internet regulations and U.S. broadband expansion plans into doubt Tuesday with a far-reaching decision that went against the Federal Communications Commission.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled that the FCC lacks authority to require broadband providers to give equal treatment to all Internet traffic flowing over their networks. That was a big victory for Comcast Corp., the nation’s largest cable company, which had challenged the FCC’s authority to impose such “network neutrality” obligations on broadband providers.
The unanimous ruling by the three-judge panel marks a serious setback for the FCC, which is trying to adopt official net neutrality regulations. FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, a Democrat, argues such rules are needed to prevent phone and cable companies from using their control over Internet access to favor some kinds of online content and services over others.

net neutrality is under consideration by the fcc, i don't think they have voted for or against s of yet. the fact is i would have never thought isp would do anything of the sort that the government proclaims they will do. is it really a matter of being charged extra for the internet or something or something more. the price of cable goes up damn near all the time and the fcc has their hands in that. sounds suspect to me. the government needs to stop anticipating to the extreme points of interest.

It is a money pot!!! Another source of revenue for the federal government. They will now figure out how to institue a fee to set up another government agency to fuck with the internet. And of course it will be passed on to the consumer, you know... For our protection. And then, like every federal agency it will grow like cancer.

Could you have grabbed the date off that article?

Did that happen in April?

Nice and misleading FDD... I thought you were better than that.

THAT RULING HAPPENED IN APRIL!!! The FCC is in direct violation of that court ruling. But you see, the government doesnt give a fuck all about the constitution and its supposed limitations. They just keep plowing on doing whatever the fuck they want to do.

Here is part of that artical that ACTUALLY LISTS THE DATE OF THE RULING...

Below is an AP article from April 6 of this year, clearly demonstrating that the Federal Courts have “ruled that the FCC lacks authority to require broadband providers to give equal treatment to all Internet traffic flowing over their networks”.
This court order has not been overturned, and stands as the rule of law. But, given this regime is in fact a communist revolutionary organization, they have been, and remain, lawless in the pursuit of the ultimate satisfaction of the revolution.
Expect this at every turn. But in this case, also expect strong challenges to the regime. Rapid TV News notes:

“This nebulous nature of some of the language in the rules almost guarantees a raft of lobbying and debate and interpretation going forward. And in any case, the FCC will most likely face a court challenge from net-neutrality opponents. Back in the spring it lost a landmark case with Comcast (sensing a theme here?) in a ruling that effectively defanged the commission from being able to regulate the Internet: Comcast’s practice of slowing traffic to file-sharing site BitTorrent was upheld.”

All the people who are ranting about this have obviously never have had their connection throttled by their ISP. It fucking sucks. ISPs already throttle people who us their connection "too much". Ask any Comcast customer in a big city that torrents. How is that fair or right that I get 10% of the speed of my neighbor for the same price only because I know how to use my internet connection that I pay for to the fullest. If regulations aren't made this practice isn't going to get better or go away, it's only going to get worse, much much worse. Internet should be readily available and affordable for everyone.

Here is my problem with this and why I dont think I should relax... It is the slippery slope.

The FCC has no jurisdiction over the internet. The federal government seeing a revenue stream and a communication mode that is not being regulated decided to grab power over the internet.

The courts ruled BACK IN APRIL that the FCC did not have the power to do so. Yet... Surprise!!! They just ignored the courts and did it anyway.

Gee, kinda like when the oil spill was happening... Obama put a moratorium on drilling. The courts overturned it. Obama put another moratorium on drilling. The courts overturned it. Obama puts a 3rd moratorium on drilling... Dunno what happened with that one but we now have a 7 YEAR moratorium on drilling in the gulf. Kinda like with healthcare where the government decided to FORCE every American to purchase health insurance with no constitutional basis to do so. But hey, that one is going to get thrown out by the courts too...

Obama gave us healthcare... Rising premiums and less choices (exactly what he promised would not happen) ensued. Obama gave us credit card protection and credit tightening and higher fees and rates ensued (exactly what was not supposed to happen). Obama gives us *net neutrality* sounds great dont it!!! Bonus to the slogan guys on that one... Now, what do you think is going to happen to the internet with these great new rules to fix a problem that may never happen?

Slippery slope, first the FCC gains control of an industry it has no business being in. Second we will need taxes to pay for the regulation. Third the agency starts spitting out red tape causing further costs to companies in the industry causing further rate increases. Less service, less choices, higher costs... Yeah FDD I can COMPLETELY understand why you are saying to just relax...

You know they just started doing random bag searches in the DC subway? I heard a great quote the other day.... "We are at war with Alquaeda(sp), not every 10th American in line". The government is taking away our liberties on a dailiy basis with the pretext of protection. It is against the 4th amendment of unreasonable search and siezure for a government official to just randomly walk up to you and demand to search your belongings. Well, unless you are in the DC and New York subways and a few other places...

Just a matter of time before it is standard for police to be able to pull your car over for a *random search* without your consent and without needing a search warrant because of terrorism. Just a matter of time before all the subways, train stations and public transport has a phalanx of TSA agents with scanners asking for your papers. Just a matter of time before the government is allowed to do a random sampling of your IP searches to make sure you are not some part of a yemenes terrorist cell.

And I wonder why I just cant seem to *relax*....

isn't there all ready an fcc charge on cable/phone/cell phone bills??? anytime you hear the government say....."what's to stop x from happening", we are in trouble. the sad part is we can't truly stop the government from happening. these career politicians need to go, they are the true welfare babies.

Here is what they are going to do to you...

They are going to set up tiered service.

So, you and your neighbor both paid $40 for internet per month now (just an example). Well, your ISP is going to set up tiered service where you can pay for additional bandwith. So after all is said and done your neighbor will be paying his $45 (40+taxes) and you will be paying $80 (70+taxes) so that you can download your music, porn, play FPS, etc...

I bet you are gonna be thrilled!!

...you're bitching about "what could happen".
With all due respect, damn right I want to bitch about what could happen before it actually does. Bitching before could get changes made or the thing killed all together. Bitching after the fact, after the FCC gets there foot in the door, good luck getting them out.
Damn, I just heard on the radio the government wants to regulate phone apps. I wasn't sure if they were talking about the FCC or the government in general.
If that is true, just think about it. Any apps would need government approval before the could be released or sold. I am glad I am not an apps maker.

time warner all ready gives you this option. they got their roadrunner service, then for xtra $$ you can get a faster roadrunner connection. so i really don't understand what the government is trying to do.

Hell, after thinking about it my ISP also has different tiers. You get the residential tier with blah blah speed and then for more $$ You get the business tier with blah blah speed. There is a difference in the download speed for the business but the upload speeds stay the same. So in the sense of trying to run a server will be no faster on the business plan than on the residential plan as the upload speed stays the same low speed cap.

Yea, like deciding this site is something they don't want on the net that they can control now and slows it down to the point that it is unusable.
I have respect for you, but I am believer of small government. The government has proven time and time again that everything they get involved with turns to shit. I believe the govt should stay the hell of out most things they have bullied themselves into. I don't trust the govt. because they don't have us "common" people in mind when they do things. They only want power.
I am done with this topic. I respect your opinion, and hope you feel the same about mine. Continuing with this will only cause grief. I am here for the growing info for the most part, but I am politically vocal on my ideas.
Happy growing and will see you on the growing forums.

Of course there is. But you think it wont go even higher so they can afford to pay people with the top 1% of internet/networking/firewalling skill in the nation to police EVERYBODY like highway patrolmen but paid more than doctors and watching a lot more people. In the end it will me slower speeds higher costs.
