Here is my problem with this and why I dont think I should relax... It is the slippery slope.
The FCC has no jurisdiction over the internet. The federal government seeing a revenue stream and a communication mode that is not being regulated decided to grab power over the internet.
The courts ruled BACK IN APRIL that the FCC did not have the power to do so. Yet... Surprise!!! They just ignored the courts and did it anyway.
Gee, kinda like when the oil spill was happening... Obama put a moratorium on drilling. The courts overturned it. Obama put another moratorium on drilling. The courts overturned it. Obama puts a 3rd moratorium on drilling... Dunno what happened with that one but we now have a 7 YEAR moratorium on drilling in the gulf. Kinda like with healthcare where the government decided to FORCE every American to purchase health insurance with no constitutional basis to do so. But hey, that one is going to get thrown out by the courts too...
Obama gave us healthcare... Rising premiums and less choices (exactly what he promised would not happen) ensued. Obama gave us credit card protection and credit tightening and higher fees and rates ensued (exactly what was not supposed to happen). Obama gives us *net neutrality* sounds great dont it!!! Bonus to the slogan guys on that one... Now, what do you think is going to happen to the internet with these great new rules to fix a problem that may never happen?
Slippery slope, first the FCC gains control of an industry it has no business being in. Second we will need taxes to pay for the regulation. Third the agency starts spitting out red tape causing further costs to companies in the industry causing further rate increases. Less service, less choices, higher costs... Yeah FDD I can COMPLETELY understand why you are saying to just relax...
You know they just started doing random bag searches in the DC subway? I heard a great quote the other day.... "We are at war with Alquaeda(sp), not every 10th American in line". The government is taking away our liberties on a dailiy basis with the pretext of protection. It is against the 4th amendment of unreasonable search and siezure for a government official to just randomly walk up to you and demand to search your belongings. Well, unless you are in the DC and New York subways and a few other places...
Just a matter of time before it is standard for police to be able to pull your car over for a *random search* without your consent and without needing a search warrant because of terrorism. Just a matter of time before all the subways, train stations and public transport has a phalanx of TSA agents with scanners asking for your papers. Just a matter of time before the government is allowed to do a random sampling of your IP searches to make sure you are not some part of a yemenes terrorist cell.
And I wonder why I just cant seem to *relax*....
