I got a grow im about to start, once one of my tents is vacant. So maybe a couple weeks.

Ill be doing 4 master kush and 4 super skunk from nirvana, with a 600w HPS bare bulb setup.

Ill be using general organics biothrive line for nutes. I use promix bx for my medium. ill be going from paper towel to 4" square pots, then to 1 gallon plastic pots. They will go into 5 gallon grow bags a week before flower starts.

I want to compare the grow bags to the smart pots for myself before i buy go and buy 40 of them. So i bought one 5 gallon smart pot for now. Ill put one of the super skunk in it, for a side by side with the 5 gallon grow bags. This is my first grow using 5 gallon finishing containers, I usually use 3 gallon containers.

Also i usually use a different nutrient company, this is my first grow with general organics. im hoping to get at least 12oz out of the 8 plants. I usually pull 15-20oz per tent, with advanced nutrients products, and 8 3 gallon pots.

A buddy of mine just finished a grow using organics, and the bud tastes sooo good, but he didnt get much from his plants. I decided i want to try it out but using a hydro setup because yield is important to me, but i want that taste from the organics.

Does anyone here use general organics in a soil-less mix? or other hydro setups?

Anyone Interested in seeing a smart pot vs grow bag, in a vert setup?

Also I am interested in learning more about breeding, If there is an expert out there that is willing to help me out with a few questions i have, please let me know.

Ill be posting lots of pictures too!

Good stuff Gotti. I use the General Organics line with a peat-based soil-less mix and get great results. Are you using the entire line?

Smart pot vs. grow bag would be great.

Subscribed, and looking forward to it!

Thanks Jerry! Yes im using the entire line. I hope to see good results too.

Mr.smileyface, why do you say they suck? They contain the soil-less mix and roots just like my pots and they both have drainage holes in the bottom.

Thank you and Welcome RP!

Took a picture of the smart pot #5 with handles...and a hairy little blue mystic top!

I did my best to edit out the yellow tint from the bare hps, how does it look!?

right on. Look forward to seeing how you like the smart pot. I played with one outdoors this last season. I think the fabric pot, mixed with my medium, made it drain way too fast. Couple days with super hot temps, she would dry up mid-day. Not a huge problem, but was a little more then the other raised beds and plastic containers. Anyway... kinda rambling on.

Pic looks good. Everything is a bit green-ish now, but looks clear.

I was thinking thats the only thing i could see being a downfall, maybe too many waterings. My temps never exceed 78 degrees F, so it may work out great but we shall see.

Yeah I gotta work out all the colors, new to photography lol practice makes perfect!

Hey Jerry, the only thing im not using out of the line is diamond black. Its not on the feeding chart i got from them so i figured i would be good without it. What is it? Will it benefit me in soil-less?

I also use blackstrap....and plan to keep using it.

With 78* and indoors, I think they may work out great. Kinda dismissed them after outdoor season... but now thinking about them again. So, I'll stay tuned. Appreciate your feedback.

Diamond Black is a "humate concentrate" of sorts. Claims to helps break down, and make more nutrients available to the roots. Helps with microbial activity too, supposedly. From what I read, they use a somewhat common source for humic acids, called Leonardite. Problem with that is raw Leonardites are primarily insoluble and have very low chemical and biological activity. Unless it happens to be super high is fulvic acids, I don't see it being a huge "bonus". But... that is just what I gather from reading product info. No first hand.

The Diamond Black is liquefied humid acids derived from leonardite, which helps maintain the soil tilth and helps the plant better tolerate overly wet/dry conditions. Like you I didn't start my line with it, but I use it every feeding (once a week typically) and it seems to help. It may be especially beneficial for your grow Gotti if you plan on utilizing those smart pots, which I've heard dry out much faster due to all the air they let in, as was mentioned above. So I would highly recommend it. It's very sticky stuff though, and I use slightly less than the recommended amount listed on the bottle...a couple teaspoons per gallon, though it calls for 1 tablespoon.

I have also stopped using blackstrap molasses altogether. I don't think it's really necessary with the other products in this lineup, though there isn't really a product in the line offering anything with sugar/carbs. I've thought abut reintroducing it but am not sure I want to mess with a system that is producing great results...so it definitely isn't necessary when using this lineup.

Valid point! Im grabbing a bottle soon. I would rather have it and not need it then to need it and not have it!

As for blackstrap, let me run the test for you! I can do some with and some without.....If it shows Ill effects It easy to drop it.

Do you test dissolved solids with these products? I always do with my chemical nutes.

BTW wear gloves with chemicals, or get measuring syringes on ebay less than $6 shipped. I have IRRITANT CONTACT DERMATITIS, or "chemical burn", from covering a 5 gallon jug with my palm to shake it up. It sucks bigtime! Wash your hands immediately after handling too. Its like poison ivy on my palm but burny not itchy. Add that to the benefits of organics! No human nute burn! lol

Test away my friend, it would be nice to see a side by side. No real reason I couldn't do it, just that I'm lazy. The only ill effect it may have is altering the pH, which segues nicely into your question...

I don't test anything. TDS meters may work with organics, but I know EC do not. I filter my water using a brita faucet filter, to which I attached a PVC tube for filling up 1-gallon jugs of water. It has worked sufficiently well thus far. When I used to pH my water out of the faucet it was somewhere around 8, but with the organics there is no need to adjust anything, so why check?

LOL...Lazy? You mean tired? ;) Growing is a job in itself, nevermind running tests!

I am always at work. There is always something to be done in one of my rooms.

Seriously? No need to check PH with organics? Or you just havent had ill effects?

Ive always PH'd my mixes. I didnt think organics was different.

I would suggest trying out organics from Advanced Nutrients too.

If you're already had success with the nutes from AN, I would just stick with what they have to offer. They're worth every penny.

Their current lineup includes:

Bud Factor X

Bud Ignitor

Grandma Enggy's F-1

Grandma Enggy's H-2

Iguana Juice

Mother Earth Super Tea

Nirvana

Organic B Vitamin Booster

Sensizym

Wet Betty

I don't use organics now, but the ones I have used are pretty darn amazing, in my opinion.

Welcome! Thank you for the suggestion.

I was looking into AN, I have almost all the chemical nutes they offer, but its hurting my wallet more and more each grow. This is my attempt at saving a little cash.

I most likely would have gone with AN organics, but they dont offer a recommended feeding schedule. General Organics has a nice easy chart to follow, and their entire line in 1qt bottles is only $120 shipped to my door, from PlantLightingHydroponics.Com. Thats 20% of what i pay for ANs chemical line.

If you or someone else can find a rec. feeding chart from AN for the iguana juice base, please let me know, Ill be more than happy to get some and compare it to GO's line.

Seriously. Because I don't have ill effects there is no need...I guess? I used Blue Mountain Organics stuff for a little while and stopped pH'ing because the pH was always the same. When I started using the General Organics I just continued not pH'ing anything. I think it has something to do with the microorganisms found in organics acting as a buffer...but don't quote me on that. I'm pretty sure the GO line specifically says to NOT adjust pH anyway...

Additionally, an important ingredient of any soil/less mix is lime to balance pH.

The more you delve into the world of organics the more you will realize the pitfalls of chemical nutrients, like pH'ing.

=D Your right, organics just keeps getting better and better. I cant wait to get this going! Ill have some vacant lights in 2 weeks, so Ill be able to start vegging right after new years So i guess this will be my first grow in 2011!

Have you finished and tested the pineapple chunk and vanilla kush yet? the ones in your signature?

I got both from barneys farm, and they were by far the 2 worst strains ive ever smoked. The growing went awesome, they just tasted too harsh even with a long cure, and the high wasnt even close to most of the strains ive grown. I was also using ANs chemical nutes to grow them.

I am smoking a bowl of pineapple chunk right now, and it's pretty nice. A little on the harsh side due to the amount of resin, but gets me pretty fucked.

I prefer to vape my buds though, and the pineapple tastes great in that. Just about everything tastes better vaporized though.

The Vanilla Kush hermied pretty hardcore on me at about 5 weeks flower, and I just chopped it a couple days ago. So I guess that's a strike against it right there.
