I do know this field extremely well, i have been watching it no joke for like 5 years trying to figure out if it was possible to get it to truly work, i would be pissed if they get found any where near harvest, thats why i don't put them by the river much nearer my place, but i do still like the gps idea, cause i see that shit being a damn corn maze when i get into it. It is unfortunately not sweet corn that grows 8' tall, it is "field" corn that tops off closer to 6' but gets much less attention, and is harvested extremely late, as some sweet corn would be harvested too early here i believe. Therefore i do need to be a little more careful on total heights, although my intention is that you need to be in the field before you could even remotely see as far as they are, like i said its a huge field. As far as my water temp goes, im not too stressed on that as it is pivot irrigated which means that it is pumped straight from a well, through the pivot sections and sprayed, i imagine that is pretty damn near my ro res temp. I have not been out to the field in a month or so at this point, so i have not seen this years top soil (manure) spread, but he does typically put a topping on the soil so im sure it has some nutes, but i do plan to add my own. I am really unsure of the whole bucket thing, couple of reasons, i do not really have a way to bury 12 buckets in the dark without being noticed until the corn is 5' tall at least. Something tells me a back hoe out in the field might be a red flag too, especially since it is actually red LoL. I honestly am thinking fuck the results this time, i just want to see if it is really feasible to do at all. I plan to set up a perpetual in feb anyhow, so finding time is going to be hell.
My final plan i believe is this, Germ my seeds to be strong and pick the strongest healthest, most female looking (yeah i know that sounds stupid and they are not in fact set in what sex they are going to be but that fuckin tall one always ends up being male) to about an average of 3" and take 12 or so with a bunch of soil. Dig out a 4-5 gallon size hole, fill with my dirt and put the seedling in, and water with nutes. Place all 12 then spread some slow release fert on them before i leave. Go back to check for sex (may have a little one in my yard to judge when to do this), pull males and fert again. return maybe 2 more times through flower then one time to take them all down and out.
