newbie here and im not sure if i posted this in the right place but oh well:mrgreen:

anyway... i just started my second grow and i know plants respond to sounds and helps the plants grow more healthier, so i put a lil boom box in the GR with a mix of my old smoker songs.

i was just wondering if that would be fine (given the fact that they are pot plants lol) or if i should play someting more soothing like rainforest music or nature sounds. what do you guys think?

Get em some HEAVY METAL. I hate the shit but the plants LOVE it. I've tried classical, country, rock, and even them crazy arsed monks chanting. Crank up the H/M and it's a show.

I remember reading that heavy metal is actually bad for plants? Oh yeah, right here:

Top is classical, second is heavy metal.

EDIT: Don't mind all the god talk in that link, obviously religious, although energy and how vibrations effect water is well known in today's science. EDIT#2: Ok I read it all, what a read, def didn't need all the religious terms, though. Pretty strange as I like rap, rock, AND classical or cosmic tunes.

From my understanding plants vibrate and respond to a frequency higher than humans can hear so classical would be the best because of the resonant frequencies created by the higher octaves. I can understand why heavy metal would work because of the lead guitars getting to such high frequency levels.

Personally, I listen to a lot of different kinds of music in my GR because I'm into music. IMO your plants will be happier with any kind of music than without

Mythbusters tested this on plants i watched it not long ago,
one room gets classical music, the other heavy metal along with other tests, but in the end the plants in the heavy metal room did better than the rest,

"Seven small greenhouses were set up on the M5 Industries roof. Four were set up with stereos playing endlessly looping recordings (as having the MythBusters actually talk to the plants could contaminate the samples with their expelled carbon dioxide): Two of negative speech, two of positive speech (Kari and Scottie each made one positive and one negative inducing soundtrack), a fifth with classical music and a sixth with intense death metal music. A seventh greenhouse, used as a control sample, had no stereo. The greenhouses with the recordings of speech grew better than the control, regardless of whether such talk was kind or angry. The plants in the greenhouse with the recording of classical music grew better, while the plants in the greenhouse with the recording of intense death metal grew best of all"

Here is some good info aswell - http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_are_the_effects_of_music_on_plants

stupid way to run up your electricity bill. i would worry about perfecting your growing skills before thinking some music will compensate :)

Even though I'm a metal maniac everywhere else in life I like classical 88.7kcme public radio. no commercials and negative crap, just sweet soothing relaxation!

Plants like the steady beat and uplifting melodies of dance music.
- But DON'T play rap: too many references to 'smoking weed' (a very stressful prospect, from the plant's point of view)

Never thought of what type of music. I threw a radio in just to drown out the fans incase a neighbor or meter reader came by...
It's on classic rock cause I cant pick up the heavier rock station with my little turd radio....
