26 days into flower, a lot of yellow fan leafs!

So i've got a Barney's Feminized LSD plant and Greenhouse Great White Shark in flower. Growing in soil and feeding with Fox Farm nutes and Molasses. Temp is around 75 degrees and humidity around 20%.

So i'm not even into my 4th week of flower and i'd say more than half of my fan leafs have turned yellow. A few at the bottom have died and fallen off but i'm sure thats normal. Also you can see in the LSD pics that the leafs on the cola are curling inward a lot. That a problem?


any help would be much appreciated!

Curling inwards leaves like you have is N toxicity caused by either too much Nitrogen or from a pH lockout.

The yellow leaves look like N deficiency caused by either not enough Nitrogen in your Bloom formula or a pH lockout.

Do you know what pH everything is that you have been using?

pH of your soil?
pH of your waterings?
have you even been pH'ing it?

You should be watering with pH6-6.5

I see a multitude of problems and only really one solution to both problems.

pH your water to 6.5 and flush the shit out of your plants.

Then mix up a balanced nutrient mix at around 1/4 to 1/2 strength and feed them.

The seriously yellow leaves will not recover but do not pluck them off they will fall on their own. You can only hope now that the damage you have done does not effect the plant too much to cause a massive loss in yield.

The clawing leaves again wil never fully recover. Again you can only hope that you havent done too much damage again to this plant.

damn. I PH my water around 6-6.5 every time. However I first PH about a gallon of brita water, then i add 1tbls of molasses and my nutes (fox farm tiger bloom and big bloom). Is it possible the PH changes after I add all of these?

The plant beside the LSD (which is great white shark) doesn't seem to have any curling leafs but does have the yellowing issue. If it is a nitrogen deficiency where should i get the added nitrogen from? Probably shouldn't use my veg fert which has the most Nitrogen should i?

can i check PH after i added my molasses and nutes or no? Also I check my ph using an aquarium tester kit not an electronic meter. It works well tho, if the water changes to orange its 6 if it changes to yellow its 6.5. So i usually get it to a light orange.

In a pinch you can mix some of your piss with water, I'm not sure what strength you would need, it's different from strain to strain. I would think about a half cup per gallon of water.

chances are Slurpy that you've been sending your nutes in around pH5.


This is a real noob error caused by not enough reading.

Again my solution is the same flush and feed but for gods sake pH after you add everything.

Molasses can throw your pH out too.

hmm the only thing with that is after i add all of my nutes the water is brown coloured. The PH test i have uses a red liquid you drop into a small amount of water and the colour change represents your PH. would it still work even with nutes in it?

That's the bad stuff being flushed out, and yes it will work testing that, that's the whole point, you are trying to get a consistent reading of what the fresh water pushes out. It is a good idea to have fresh water feedings in between your other feedings, with nothing at all mixed in, that's the best way to get an accurate reading of ph.

Just thought i should add this so that you know! PLANTS USE NITROGEN DURING FLOWERING!

My CANNA COCO A and B has NPK 5-4-3 and is used regardless of Veg or Flowering its the same the whole way through with PK added during week 3.

Once you have flushed your plants with pH balanced water make sure you add a balanced nutrient to them at 1/4 to 1/2 strength. THIS IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE YOUR VEG NUTES.

With FOX FARMS dont you mix some of the Grow Big with TIger Bloom etc to get a balanced nutrient profile????

Have you looked for a feeding chart for fox farms?

Im pretty sure on this site i have seen people mixing a bit of both nutes in order to keep it balanced.

ohh ok i do have the feeding schedule and it does say to add Grow Big the 3rd and 4th week of flowering. I never noticed that i was just using Big Bloom and Tiger Bloom. Also when you say "flush" then add nutes, do you mean the same day? or for my next watering (actually today) should i only use PH'd water and then next watering a few days later try the Grow Big and other nutes?

Personally whenever i flush a medium of nutes i always add some nutes straight away after the flush so that the medium has something in it rather than just plain water. BUt its up to you i grow SOILESS so my medium starts its life without any nutes in it anyway.

cool i just did your idea. Flushed it with clean PH'd water (about 6.5) then added 1/2 Grow nutes (and ph'd water after nutes were added). Run off PH was about 6.

hopefully they look healthier in a day or two!

I don't know about flushing. I don't think you have a build up of anything particular. Dialing in the nutrients is your issue here.

I'd suggest adding a very good Microbiotic rich tea. Probably something that includes Worm Castings and High PK Guano. Check around your local plant nurseries or hydroponics shops as they can either supply this or suggest someone else who can.

If you pursue this and just can't find anything then stick with your nutrients. Cut back on the molasses for a few waterings. From what I can see you could use Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Calcium and Magnesium for sure, but I can't really say if Potassium is in short supply. So if you add anything try to keep the K levels down unless the serrated parts of the leaf start to curl upwards and/or yellow (without "crisping").

What I'm thinking is you need to rebuild your microbial environment and feed the plant. The microbes take time to establish and multiply so you need to attack this on both levels. You also need to keep that pH up around 6.5 to keep those little buggers happy. What is dead is dead, so if it is blocking something that is green you may as well remove it and let the green stuff grow. The plant is definitely hungry right now, respond appropriately and of course keep your pH and environment under control. Things will work out fine.

wow good info! I actually have a bag of worm castings, i add about 10% to each pot with my soil and perlite. Also Big Bloom which is part of the Fox Farm trio says two of its main ingredients are earthworm castings and bat guano, should i be adding more of this fertilizer? I usually only add 1/2 - 3/4 of all my nutes, never gone full of what the bottle recommends. I usually shoot for low 6 when im' Ph'ing but i'll try shooting for high 6 and hopefully that could help as well.

Big Bloom isn't all that concentrated and given the look of your plant I'd say go for it. If I were you I'd be running about 5ml of Grow Big, 4ml of Tiger Bloom, and 10ml of the Big Bloom. As soon as you see the plants improving then you need to incorporate simple pH water feedings between feedings to keep the salt build up to a minimum. Make sure you're getting some run off with the water and remove the run off from the tray.
