Howzer's Cabinet Extravaganza. No Clowns Allowed

So I'm back in action here, finally. This round is going to be stinky satisfying, I tells ya. No 600w, sorry. Running a 430w Agrosun on the same Lumatek ballast in the same Hydrofarm Daystar reflector in the same 2x4x5' cabinet cooled by the same 465CFM ActiveAir blower. I've refumbled my ventilation to pull air. It's now pulling for ambient air supply and cooling the lamp; I got rid of my axial fans for ambient air. I added a HEPA style partical filter at the intake for clean fresh air. No dust, no bugs no worries. Changing up the style this round, going closer to SOG with 8 plants.Two rows of 4, staggered out by two weeks 4 clones at a time. Nutrients will be decided soon. I bought Botanicare to try it out and think I don't like it already. Still have good ol Foxfarm laying around, so I may lean on that. We'll see. My cuts in this week : 2 Grandaddy Purple(Ken's cut), 2 OG Skywalker and 1 special guest Purple Kush. PK will be joining these ladies until I flip to 12/12, then she'll be housed with the mother I have left. And as I promised, I'll take better documentation so there is more for all of you to read. Maybe more pictures. We'll see how interested you are with what I give you

Today's Stats:

Temperature : 78 Degrees Farenheit

Relative Humidity : 60%

They're all about 3-4" tall. Each potted clone received just over 1 liter of water. I used 75ml of Fox Farm Big Bloom to 5 Gallons of water. That's about 2.5oz per 5 Gallons, or about 1 Tablespoon per gallon. However you break it down. I use Mililiters because I can adjust my nutrients in very small increments. In other words, more control over what I put into my water. I don't usually check PH or PPM at all unless I think something has changed about my tap water. I do fill up my reservoir and let it sit atleast 24 hours before I use it to evaporate much of the cholrine. I have an airstone in there to keep things mixed and provide a bit more oxygen. OK, 8 or so PPM extra of oxygen isn't much but I have my way of doing things. This big long explanation of crap I do isn't going to be included in every post here-on. It's the first thread post and some people ask questions. Speaking of, if anyone has any questions or comments feel free to post. -HMD

Lol yea that's what I like to call good ventilation. There is no such thing as over-doing ventilation. I've got negative pressure around 50% fan power and I like the temps at around 75% power. So that's where she stays.

Word, me too. She won't be going into flowering for a while. Going in with the other mother after these gals flop to 12/12 and I'll start ripping clones in another month or so. So 3 months-ish we'll have PK.

Good luck. I read your thread about God Bud, etc., and I was going to ask you if it's as smelly as they say? But I got so caught up in the thread, I forgot to. Short term memory problem. I have some beans, but I need to watch the smell right now. I don't think I can grow it now, as much as I want to.

I also wanted to ask if you do much crossbreeding? You seem to know what you're doing, I learned a bunch from that thread. Thanks.

God Bud can get pretty stinky, of the two Pheno's I've had that is. So keep a lid on it with a carbon filter and some incense or ona or something laying around the house that smells fresh. That's unfortunate you can't grow now, I hope that changes..
I've done my fair share of breeding, but nothing going on ATM. There were my "wild west" days when I had lots of land and plenty of time to grow dope on it. I've made some funky crosses, most without names, and the ones with names I wasn't responsible for naming. I just grew "really good dope" as they would call it. Thanks for stopping in on this thread and you're welcome for the information on the last. That's what this place is all about, we all post so we can all learn from each other. I'll try to include MUCH more of my brain matter in this one for you guys.

Really though, G-13 wasn't too bad. And purps said what I was going to say, NL, or NL crosses. NL#5 is kind of stinky though. IDK, really. Most of the pot I've grown has stunk to some level. Unless your set-up is really small count on some stink.

Blue Mystic is odorless until a few weeks into flower, but even then it doesnt smell like MJ to the untrained nose. Agree with Howzer, if you have a good carbon filter and fan, you can grow 5 stinky plants no problem. ONA works amazing as well, lasts two whole grows and eliminates smell outside the grow room for $20.

Radical MJN. Stoked to have you along. I'll probably end up adding the next four clones this weekend. I've got a few goodns' to pick from from, so you won't be disappointed. I was thinking about Blue Mystic, that's one of my options. I know purplehazin was stoked on it, I want some more input.

I suspected that might be it. I like a good daytime smoke that I can smoke a joint of and not be blazed out of my mind. So, it might work for me.

In that case, just pick up some nice Sativa. You can get the clear-headed euphoric high while not wanting to pass out immediately. That, and you can still have top shelf quality. Lamb's Breath is my favorite daytime weed ever, I recommend it highly. A close second would be African Swazi. Very uplifting.

Interesting. I was just talking about Lamb's Breath. African Swazi is new to me. I'm hoping to nail down this Blue Mystic, then I might try one of those.

There's some clones floating around here, but if you cant find seeds on The Attitude then I dont know where else to look; they have the best variety.

As far as I know about Lamb's Breath I get it from a buddy of mine.. Sorry Illumi, I have no idea where to order..That Kwazulu is something I might want to check out

New growth evident over night, not much size difference. There's new foliage output at each node of each clone. So far, vigorous. Nothing terribly earth shattering regardless.

Lowered my lamp 2 chains links, about 2 inches. I will do this every day until I get to my final height above the plants. It's a good idea to introduce your cuttings to HID lighting gradually over the first few days atleast so they adjust to the new light. There's a big chance you can fry your clones if you throw them under a MH/HPS right after they've left the cloning area. There's a HUGE difference in light intensity between flourescents and HID lamps, so don't make the plant suffer it.

My lack of variance with RH and Temp is worthy so far. I'll betchya we'll have much larger swings with all 8 plants in there thriving. That shouldn't be a problem, as most of you saw how crowded the last round ended up. Thick lush foliage packed into every usable corner. No mold, fungus or bugs. EVER, not once. How did my battle end up with absolutly no infestations? Plenty of moving air. And diligent liberal application of Neem oil regularly with mosquito dunks in my water reservoir. Most folks here think neem is junk, and respectably so if you use it like a chemical pesticide. It isn't a silver bullet and if you don't use it through-out a grow from start to finish it won't do anything for you but stink up your grow. Mosquito dunks are little wafers of bacteria that attack fungus gnat larvae, and other water-born pests. Just weight one down and let it sink to the bottom of your water rez. You can find em for 7 bucks at a hardware store. With those I've yet to get more than a stray fungus gnat or two. And guess what : I don't use a dehumidifier either. With enough moving air and tenacity when using pest/mold prevention you won't need one in a grow this size.

What do you think of that idea? Nothing much, but when you add em all up by the end of this thread we could have grow advice gold to smother on it's own thread.

Thought I would add a briefing of my set-up for those that weren't around last go.
We have :

2x4x5' Cabinet. Constructed with a 2x4 frame and skinned with plywood. I used 3/4" plywood for the top and bottom to add stability and allow for mounting things if need be. The walls are 1/4". The interior and exterior is covered with flat white paint. I thought about mylar or panda film, but I've always got white paint around. And the difference in relfectivity isn't a big deal to me. I created a water-tight drip pan on the floor of the cabinet with a piece of galvonized sheet metal and some flashing to create a 2" lip all the way around. It's all sealed up with some caulk. This way I don't need to use saucers, and no worries about the wood rotting and molding on the bottom. I never built a door for it because of how it fit into it's closet, so I've got panda film tightened over the front and sealed up. I used two zippers to create a door. I framed a sunken in panel on the left side exterior to house my ballast, timer, fan speed control and surge protector. There's room for more stuff later on. My ventilation is all run by an ActiveAir 465cfm blower and filtered with a Phat brand carbon scrubbber. I have a passive intake on the lower left side of the cab that also has a HEPA style partical filter. My girls get fresh clean grit, bug and dust free air 24/7. I'm running a 400w Lumatek Digital Switchable/Dimmable ballast with Super Lumens. Currently I've got a 430w Agrosun in with the Super Lumens switch activated. I can run either MH or HPS at 250, 275, 400 and 430w. Or, I can flip on the SL switch with an older 400w bulb and get some extra juice out of it. The lamp is in a Hydrofarm Daystar A/C 6" reflector. I've got a 6" rigid elbow on the right side of the hood attached to a 6x4" reducer that leads to the blower intake. The blower exhausts through the carbon scrubber on top of the cab, another reason I have the filter on my cab intake. Without that, not only would I end up with a dusty dirty cab, my carbon scrubber would be mucked up with the same stuff too.

Nah he's talking about light height to the canopy of the cannabis. When you first move from the veg area with Flouro's to the flower area with HPS, the amount of par/lumens hitting the plant greatly increases. This can fry your plant (sun bleaching) if your HPS is too close. So start off having your HPS 2 feet from the canopy, then every day, move it down 2 inches, but still giving it that 12 hours light/ 12 hours dark.

Purplehazin pretty much said it. After you move the clones from flourescent lighting and put them under an HPS it's good to back off on the light for the first few days until the clones adjust to the new lamp. IOW, keep a good distance between the tops of the clones and the lamp at first so you don't burn the shite out of em. Some people give it a few days at a distance and then move the lamp down to it's final height all at once. I prefer to do it gradually over those few days, as I have more control over it that way and don't run the risk of burning the clones if they still aren't ready.

BTW, I'm still on an 18/6 light schedule. Thought I should mention that I'll be swapping over at the end of next week-ish or once I see the second set of clones has gained a few inches. The second group of clones are coming this weekend.

MIA for a while... Today's temperatures are 78 Degrees Farenheit, 66% Relative Humidity. For feeding I've gone back to my "roots" and settled on my feeding for this whole indoor thing : 75ml of Fish Emulsion with 75ml of Big Bloom and 75ml of molasses per 5gal water. It's my favorite combination. The fish emulsion has the major elements with a small portion of macro and micronutrients. The big bloom fills in the gaps. The molasses helps feed my micro herd. During flowering I'll work in tiger bloom, to see how that goes together. If I don't like it I will fall back on some liquid bat guano. Well rounded and I have yet to see any poor results with this regimine after I-don't-know-how-many pulls using it(in an organic soil as far as I know, it's not as useful to the plant without an active micro-herd I'd assume). It feels good going back to what I used before scanning the isles of the Hydroponic stores . I'm going to take one of the Ken's cut GDP's out to save before 12/12. She's the real deal, and I'd hate to just pass her up right now. I checked out the mother myself and smoked the finished buds, that was enough convincing for me. Shit I'm running out of space. I had to rig up a chamber for the PK since there's no room where the one mother I already have is chillin. Time to expand soon . The single shot is Skywalker. The 4 lanky younger clones in the group shot are : Master OG and 909 Master Kush. MOGs front center, 909s rear left&right corners. GDP's rear center. Skywalker front right and left corners.

I won't be going as long into veg as last round and no 5gal transplant. I'm going for top cola dominance, no topping or cropping or pinching. A small scale SOG style I guess you could say. Pretty much "lolli-popping" them as I go. Keep lower branching to a minimum and encourage fatter tops. By doing this I'm concentrating most of my yield on the upper-most portion of the plant. Last round was different. I had fewer, larger plants with multiple tops and lots of branching. This round is a greater number of smaller plants. Same space, but used differently.
