the room is normally 60 degrees, but I'm going to turn on the space heater to make it 75-80 degrees every few hrs to keep it warm in there

Your 400W lamp may keep the tempurature fine in your grow room if you do 24 hours on, during veg at least.

I assume this is a room 4 x 7 x ? (8 foot ceiling) thats alot of room for a 400w MH/HPS. A 400w light is good for a 4x4 area. What r you going to do about smell? I dont see any intake air or exhaust setup. If you do need a heater, why not get one that has a thermostat and set it to 75 and leave it be, it will cycle on and off as needed. I dont think dropping the temps when in darkness is a bad thing, as thats how it happens in nature.......60 doesnt seem to be to low.....but I wouldnt go any colder than that. You might be surprised how much heat a 400w light can produce, assuming you are not useing a cool tube or vented light fixture. You might also want to consider the Humidity levels of the room (seedling 80+%, Veg growth 60+% and flowering 50% or less) Just my 2cents worth.Good luck, Hope it all works out.

appreciate the response, i do also plan on having a odor eliminator that ill get online and have that in the back of the room. The thing im unsure of is the exhaust system tho, where could i run it to if the temp outside of the room is cold(if i require a heater)? Is it really a necessity or is it possible to go without one? do you have any idea how much heater with a thermostat would cost to buy and run?

that was my point, a 400 watt light even vented will kick things up a few degrees... if 60 is as low as you go with the lights off then you should just pick-up a purple strain and watch the colors come on during flower... :)
65-75 is idea with stunting becoming apparent @ 60 and below or 90 or above.... certain strains have preferences and will do better/worse in cold/hot weather. get a decent hood and duct fan maybe even a speed controller and you should be able to dial it in without getting a heater involved. happy growing

awesome, sounds great. i'll look into strains that do good in colder weather..and also look into that hood, duct fan, and speed controller thing even though i dont really know too much about what they are...are they expensive?

edit: this what you mean? http://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadison/413000.html

i could afford one of those, that would work and i would not need exhaust?

If you wanna do this correctly your going to have to invest a little, fortunately, a little goes a long way with gardening.... ie. this kinda stuff is usually a one time purchase.
Now do some homework and read read read
