Help with watering

Hi! FIrst of all I'm new to growing mj and I know there are a lot of threads about how to water your plants but none of them have any information to help me. They all say that to water your plants well, you should water until you see some runoff, that's what I do but that's not my problem, my problem is that the soil dried and shrank, so there's some space between the soil and the pot, and when I water the soil, all the water just comes out the bottom and the soil stays dry, so what do I do in this situation?

Id water it with a sprayer so the water slowly saturates. Might take a while, but that would probably help the water not run straight out the bottom. Sounds like the soil is REALLY dry.

Hi devastator. What you have is a easy fix. Turn your topsoil. After your soil sits for awhile and you've watered a few times, it tends to settle. The easiest way to do this is take a fork and lightly drag it across the topsoil. Be careful around the edge of the plant as most mj will send roots later in life very close to the surface. Make sure you break it up evenly and especially around the edges so when you go to water, it will penetrate evenly and get rid of the dry pockets deep down that you can't see. Another surefire way to make sure your whole pot is getting wet is to use a wetting agent. I will use a DROP of dawn dish soap to my water jug. It will make sure all the soil gets soaked. It should bro. I would implement the topsoil turning and after you do that, use the sprayer. You will def see an improvement on your watering. I'm only on my fourth grow and I had to learn all this the hard way since I didn't join this site till a few months ago right before I started this last grow.
