My experience with Advanced Nutrients

I've been using Botanicare for some time now and I've had inconsistent and mixed results. I have found that even when using enzymes like Hygrozyme the Botanicare product line is a real PITA to keep in check.

My grow room is a sealed room that is climate controlled, running 1000W Hortilux HPS's and I do enrich the rooms air with 1500 PPM co2. I have built this room for success and have all the good stuff to ensure success. I've changed my genetics to see if it was the plants I was using and experimented with a lot of different additives trying to get the most out of my plants with organically but have not experienced the kind of yields I should be getting with the enviroment I have created.

I have several friends who use Advanced Nutrients and their rooms are not nearly as well put together as mine but they are experiencing tremendous yields consistently. So.... I recently made the switch.

I would like to use this thread to put a lot of the myths and misunderstandings about AN to rest and share my experiences about what works and what doesn't work.

I currently have 4 plants in my bloom room. There are 2 Durban Poisons and 2 AK47's. The plants are in 3 gallon buckets and sitting under an air cooled 1000W Hortilux Super HPS. I plan to change the buckets to 5 gallons when the root syst gets a little bigger. The plants have been under 12/12 HPS for 6 days now.

Currently I am running two nutrient formulas. 1 ak and 1 Durban are getting AN Connossieur. 1 ak and 1 Durban are running connossieur and Bud blood.

All 4 plants started showing sex in 2 days. I do not notice a difference between te bud blood and non bud blood plants so I do not think I will be using Bud Blood again. It does not appear to be worth the money. I will say however that the connisseur line is great stuff. My plants typically take 5-6 days minimum to show sex so the Conni has got some. Good stiff
in it to induce flowering earlier. Also, I am running almost 2000 PPM my AK usually burns at anything over 850 with the Botanicare, they are not showing any sign of burning with the 2000 PPM Conni.

Tonight I will be performing a res. Change. The 2 plants that have only been given the base nutrients will continue to to only get the base nutrients. The plants that were given the bud blood will be given Hammerhead tonight and continue to recieve it through the entire grow. I will also be using overdrive during weeks 5 and 6. And will be running Botanicare Sweet through the entire grow. After this grow I will probably switch to Bud Candy but I already have the Sweet and see no need to let it go to waste. I also run hygrozyme in my reservoirs.

why do you choose hygrozym over the AN's voodoo juice?
I'm gettin ready to make the switch to AN also, was thinking about runnin sensi ab big bud, bud candy, voodoo and overdrive. I'll have to look into the connossieur line.

Hygrozyme is not a replacement for Voodoo Juice it is a replacement for sensizyme. I know a lot of people who have used both and they all swear by hygrozyme.

I switched to dechlorinated water and my PH levels started going crazy. I added hygrozyme and they still bounce around a little more than they did when I was leaving the chlorine in my water but they are much more stable than they were without it. When I took the chlorine out of my water my PH would jump from 6.0 to 7.5 in under 24 hours. Since adding the hygrozyme it goes from 6.0 to 6.5 in the same time period.

Yeah, I would think Voodoo Juice would be necessary in this run, but if you're seeing good results with Conniseur, then I say don't mess with success. I haven't used Conni before, but the more I'm reading about it, the more I'm thinking that I should.

And I would totally go with the Bud Candy. I used to think that was such a crock, but then I used it once after borrowing some and it's really the best supplement AN makes besides Big Bud - IMHO

Thx for sharing your experience on the boards. Always nice to see proof and real results, instead of just hearing that someone doesn't like a nutrient because of something they heard from someone else...LOL

Ive grown with AN for a while now In bloom I use sensi A&B, bud candy, big bud and overdrive and cal mag as needed. Im thinking of adding bud igniter in my next crop. Ive tried Voodo juice and all the products that are supposed boost your root system in veg..they seem to work but I only veg for 2 weeks 3 at the most and i see no difference in yield with them or without them. I have added roots excelurater from H & G ..its unholy how it effects root growth. I have spent the money on conni and i dont think its worth it..i see no difference in yield or quality. I grow in a 4x4 tent with an air cooled 600hps with lots of fresh air coming in. I grow 9 endless sky from DR greenthumb http://www.kindgreenbuds.com/marijuana-strains/endlesssky.html ..its one of the most potent smokes around. I veg for 2 to 3 weeks using some pruning and LST and bloom for 10 weeks using the nutes i mentioned and If i dont screw anything up i get around 22 dry ounces of " I cant feel my feet" bud. And thats in a crappy tent with an air cooled hood eating into my lumens.
This is just what works for me =)
peace, Te Lilman

TheBoozer thanks, i seldom read something and beleive every word of it great info. i switched from canna pk13/14 to AN hammerhead4/8 after reading good reveiws and yes it did do well but i have no format for a decisive choice i changed at a point when the buds should of started to boom anyway and i did it to all the plants plus i added another light now 1200w in 1.2m by 1.2m tent so they should be boomin, it says add 20ml to 10l i put in 25 last watering plus A+B and a dash of vitamaxplus and cannazyme and theres no sign of overferting so ima push it to 25 ml next watering prolly cut 5 ml off the A+B, has anybody got any experiance with using pk and hammerhead where they could see a clear winner?

I have found that Nirvana by AN is better then Bud Candy. Bud candy is known for changing flavors is some strains. I am about to to do an experiment between Fox Farm vs. the Sensi line by AN. link in my signature. interesting posts though. ill be back.

For sure! Dyna-Grow loses every nutrient competition they enter. Mostly to AN! But I would like to do a comparison between Canna, Supernatural, DG, GH, and AN one day.

I apologize for not updating this thread like I had intended to. My computer took a crap a few days after starting this thread and I still haven't gotten around to fixing it so I'm forced to post from my phone. Please forgive me for the typos because my phone isn't exactly the most post friendly device.

I did my week 4 nutrient change tonight.

Last week I added B52 to my plants receiving the additives. All 4 of the plants have been showing signs of a mag defiency so I also added 5 ml per gallon of cal mag. The mag deficient didn't come as a shock because I'm using RO water. The mag deficient is still present so I'm upping the cal mag to 10ml per gallon. I ran out of sweet last week so I started the Bud Candy this week. They are supposed to be very similar so it should have no impact on the plants. My current lineup is as follows:

Durban 1 and AK 47 1

Conni
B52
Hammerhead
Bud Candy
Sensizym
CalMag

Durban 2 and AK 47 2
Conni
CalMag
Bud Candy
Sensizym

One additional change was the sensizym. My hydro store ran out of hygrozyme so I picked up the sensizym. My PH fluctuates a lot less with the sensizym than it did with the hygrozym so I am going to stick to the sensizym.

Right now I do not see a substantial difference in growth between the plants with additional additives vs the plants not receiving them. The one area i do a see difference is the root system. The root system on the plants that received the bud blood and receive the additives are much thicker, denser, and the total root mass is probably close to twice as much as the non additive plants. I'm thinking my eye meter may not be enough for this study and at the end of the day it is going to come down to the scale.

I'll try to keep this updated and post some pics when my computer is up and running.

One thing I want to add to this is that the conni itself is an amazing product. The biggest thing Ihave noticed is the aromas from the plants. I have a carbon filter in my room that runs 15 minutes every 3 hours. I could have up to 8 plants in that room without a bit of smell making its way throughout the house. I've had up to 16 plants in the bloom room and had minimal smell in the house. The 4 plants I have in flower now are stinking up the entire house with the 3hr off 15mn on so I'm going to have to run the filter more often. The pla are also a lot stickier which leads me to believe that the plants resin production has been increased.

uhhh... many forum members do comparisons with dyna-gro vs AN and others, and dyna-gro always comes out on top?

I have a few plants in veg right now and switched them from age old to dyna gro and I can tell you that the dyna gro is kicking ass. I mess around with a lot of nutrients. Haven't put dyna gro in hydro and probably won't for the time being due to what I'm seeing with advanced but who knows I may do some experimenting down the road.

Please post up! I would love to see these competitions. I have used AN and now use only dyna-gro so I know the results I have seen. I have only seen one other "competion" involving dyna-gro done by homebrewer. Dyna won hands down.

I have used AN's sensi and their 3 part. They are diluted crap that do not contain all the esential micro nutes. 2 part fertilizers are cheap. AN's rediculous dilution rates also means they are cheap. I regulary got deficiencies with AN, which would have to be corrected using one of there 25 or so additives (many of which odviously over lap each other).

Remember MJ is a foliage based weed. Its incredibly vigorous and efficient. Its easy to grow and doesnt require a nutrient soup consisting of complicated special chemical additives. But thats not what the MJ specific nutrient brands want you to think

It's a common fallacy that appeals to elements of logic but doesn't necessarily contain the truth.

One side argues that because it costs more profit-driven motivation accounts for all the evidence that it's good. Thus any argument made by the other side is either profit-driven or ignorant regurgitation of something fed to them by the profit-driven.

It's ridiculous. First off, some times things cost more because they're worth more. Second, it's the natural presumption of nearly all people to believe that what ever their point of view is, it's the correct one and that any who don't share it simply don't know any better.

My advice is to try it for yourself - whatever "it" might be.

Oh, and try to be a little more open-minded to the possibility that in something as subjective as growing, two differing view points can BOTH be right.

In that spirit, my education on the virtues of Dyna-Grow is lacking. Can anyone point me to Cannabis Cup winners or similar growing contests where someone in the top used it? I find it works best for me to look at what the guys at the top are doing with it to determine how I can apply it to my own growing.
