single tubes are inefective except for clones and seedlings. You want compact florescents and lots. A combination of Daylight (6500 K) and Warm White (2700) K GE & Philips brand are the most readily available 8500 K in my area.

You can use tubes, however at a minimum, I would use 2 and only for cuttings or seedlings. You can maintain a mother under 4 tubes, I do. However, 17 watts ain't gonna do it. If you want to be able to encourage vegetative growth with T-8s, get 40W bulbs and make sure the Kelvin rating is 6500k. I use GE cool White Plus bulbs. They pack a lot more lumen and are closest to the light spectrum for veg growth.

yeh i suggest getting a T5 4-tube if your using a fluorecent. even a T12 will work. im using a T12 2-40watt 7000K, and its working ok. 17watt wont do much, i like those for side lighting though, have your strong fluoro on top 1" away from top and those 17watters on the side will do a bit of help. even if it doesnt help that much its 17watts it costs pennies to run.

I used t-12's for my first grow.. Got very good smoke but the buds were airy & light. Not hard & heavy. I switched to 2-150 watt HPS & the difference is incredible.

Even if you get 1 its worth the 80 bucks. Trust me & you will see. 400 would be much better but like I said.. even the 150's over the t-12's is fantastic.!

002.jpg001.jpgI have 6 of these mounted in a Rubbermaid box for veg. Working great. This is they second crop I vegged under them and had no problems whatsoever. Under $11 per light. Still haven't found any replacement bulbs yet though.

I also run 4 4' T8's. Also bought at Walmart. They sell a great cfl there for flowering too. A 55w GE cfl @ 2700k.

Flouresent tubes will grow cannabis there is no dought they work,But the light's are not powerful enougth to grow a good yeilding plant. The node's on the plant tend to strech due to the intencity,if you are gonna do a indoor grow and money is no problem then go with hps first choice second choice hid.............tyke..........................

Nice job on that tote dude!!! Did you take that pic through a fan hole? :)

While I do use flouros, I only use them for nursing plants, not growing them to bloom. consider a better source of light for veging and blooming.

Thak you serapis. I would love to throw in a 150 or 250 HPS but haven't been able to because of my limited grow area. I took that pic through the 4" passive intake, the exhaust fan is on the other end. Right now I'm vegging under 24/0 so there isn't a need for a light trap. I will be building one for the next run because after trying both, I think I like the 18/6 schedule better. I pulled 5 1/2 oz off 4 small plants on my first run. Bud was pretty tight, but I was using a total of 522w fluoro and cfl.

A high pressure sodium lamp IS an HID, or high discharge type of lamp. The two are not seperate, but one and the same. HPS and MH are both HID lamps. :)

I've not been able to find the 40w T8's. Best I found was 32w. Where did you find them?

Wow! That's where I ended up getting my 32's as well. Maybe they were just out of stock. (Or I was too stoned and missed them!) Thank you!

I got mine at Home Depot. & a t-8 will fit in a t-12 fixture. I dont know if that has an affect on the luminas though..

The T8's will fit in a T12 set-up, but they have to be in a T8 setup to realize the 30% lumen increase over T12's.

I use fluroecent for veg, and it develops very nice and tight internodal spacing if kept 1" from tops. then i flower with my 400watt HPS. the buds arent very "fluffy and airy"

if you flower with a fluorecent no doubt your yield will suck, buds will be very loose, but w,e you still get some smoke.

in my opinion a MH is best for veg, but a T5 4tube will do just as good of a job, just slower.

but for flower man you gotta go with an HPS your plant will thank you, and in turn you will thank yourself while your smoking that dank.

I kinda always wondered. can i use my HPS for veg? my T12 feel slow at veg. im looking into a T5 - 4 tube. they arent as cheap as i thought.

I did the same. I use $10 T-12 4' shop light fixtures with T-8 bulbs. I use GE cool White PLUS 40 w 6500k. If I still had the SKU off the wrappings I'd give it to ya. In doing a search, I'm only finding 32w bulbs.... let me check my lamps.... they are GE Ecolux 40 watts... I'm simply amazed that I cannot find them on Google shopping... I'm heading out to walmart now to see if I can get some more... If so, I'll provide a sku on here later this afternoon. and a pic for those from the "Show Me State" LOL...
