...well my veg lights go on at 7am every morning...this morning at around 8... I hear "BOOM"...and then the sound of class...I go back to see my 1000w MH bulb has exploded...almost exactly 11 months to the day...so I say " fuck " and clean up some glass...but wait, it gets better
as I am enjoying my morning bagel , it starts to smell like someone blew out a candle...I'm thinking it was from the hot bulb...but nooo, the fucking reflective plastic I have on the walls in the veg room ( the blk and wht stuff...i forgot the name) had some how caught on fire from maybe a hot piece of glass...and the wall was now on fire!...but wait, theres more
while pulling at the burning plastic to get it out of the room, I managed to knock the whole light fixture down into my hydro tray...trashing at least 4 plants ...I haven't did a full damage report yet because of what happen next...yep I said "next"
after getting the light out of tray and seeing my plants, I decided to go smoke a fatty...while rolling, the smoke alarm goes off again, so I go back and find more plastic on fire...this time under the tray, as I reach down I stick my finger right in melting plastic:dunce: and the shit sticks to my skin and burns the shit out of me...like 2nd degree burns on finger and palm...and it's only 9:30am..."good morning to me"

And people ask whether it is safe to go away for a few days and leave their grow unattended ... hmmm
Yeah.. I mean I can understand some people have to leave during the day for work or classes..

but this is why its important to plan ahead.. and make sure that you have the time to grow.. and have the time to give the plant(s) the attention that they need occasionally.

just my opinion though.

peace.

...just got done having that conversation...I would of lost my whole house,everything...I'm out in the boonies, the fire dept. is like 9 miles away so if I wasn't home...shit I don't wanna think about it
...I have a safe set-up...everthing is done right and up to code...this freggin bulb just exploded...I mean HOT glass flew everywhere...if my glass cover would of been on at least the glass would of stayed up there...I lost 3 violator kush plants and 2 bubba kush, but I have the mothers, who just missed execution
and for those who know me...yes a similar thing happen to me already once...a flor. came down this summer and took out 2 mother plants, but that was fully my fault...lol

...I,ve done construction my whole life and seen lots of shit...but I really would not have guessed that a bulb could break and the glass remain hot enough to catch that plastic on fire like that...I tried to take a pic. of the tray....the black hydro tray ( American Hydroponics 3' x 3' ) actually melted on the side...and that shit is thick and it wasn't like I left it burning...this all happened within a minute or so...
...I don't think I will ever leave home with my lights on again...theres really no safety precaution being over looked here...freak accident

Unfortunatly I heard of allmost the exact same thing happening just the other day. this person claims that having a sealed room saved them and it self extingushed from lack of oxegyn after doing extensive damage. same thing bulb broke and set black n white polly and tray and containers on fire. Maybe people should be using air cooled instead of open hoods so if glass breaks the housing will catch it. what brand bulb and ballast was it? kind of weird how long your saying it took for some of the plastic to catch-you would think it would cool right off and not continue catching fire. Glad everyones ok be safe and heres some rep sounds like you could use it.

that sounds like a fucking ordeal. now you have to go and get another bulb. shit like this makes me think about looking into automatic fire extinguishers.

the bulb was hortilux high performance MH and the hood and ballast are from sunleaves...I have the cooling hood but the glass cover was off...that polly burned like tissue paper...when i get my flor. going in there i will post a pick of the carnage

This is the fear us pot growers have to live with everyday. Honestly When im not home, 5 minutes doesnt go by without me thinking about my closet catching fire and destroying my whole lively hood. Ive had a 400 watt MH explode in my closet while i was in there once already. Now that shit is scary, Theres nothing worse then almost catching hot glass in the eye and having your closet catch fire.

man i feel your pain man, and share your joy for having a home to come back to. my ballast melted a little while back, place didnt burn down luckily, only as i had the ballast chocked up on bricks. close call for you bro! you should maybe look into one of those auto systems that will go off when the heat gets to so high. sorry i dont know the name of them.

...I thought about the heat...the light was only on for about 45 min. and the room was only at 78...I'm just wondering if heat caused the bulb to break...the glass was hot enough to start the poly on fire, but those bulbs run hot anyways...so if the bulb had broke for another reason, would it have still been that hot??...and my ballast wasn't hot...so idk if an auto system would have helped at that point, but the auto sprinkler system is getting looked into...along with the auto shut -off...thanks and be carfull

I was picturing everything going down as you told it. And not that your situation was funny, but I laughed after this part...

...as I reach down I stick my finger right in melting plastic:dunce:
I could see myself doing that.

I get the negative thoughts too sometimes after leaving the house. I actually stopped putting my dog in his cage after I pictured the house going up and him not being able to run or do anything about it. Not that he could do a whole lot anyway if the whole house went up, but at least not just being stuck there watching it get closer... yuck that's a horrible thought.

Anyway, glad things didn't turn out even worse and I hope good karma keeps everyone (and their animals) safe.
