was just a suggestion. And yes i do know, its my job at the end of the day. Why not jump on the backs of the people suggesting mobile phone chargers running at 4-500 milliamps. I know what i am talking about, have a degree in microprocessor electronics. Do you? You wanna try and get tech with me? Aint what im here for.

Do I wanna try and get tech on you and your degree in microprocessor electronics? Hardly. I have a degree that didn't come from an online degree mill. I also have real world experience. I've worked in the industry since 96 and have been self employed for almost a decade. At the end of the day, it's my business and not a job.

Sure, it was just a suggestion and the cell phone charger idea is no better. I pointed out the amperage issue in my first post. Still, the fact remains. If you're using computer case fans then there's obviously a budget issue. I didn't think using the power equivelant of a small HID to be sensible or safe way to push a few cfm of air. Sure, I know it will work. I've used a 200 watt PS to power two large 24v fans (from a SCSI CD array).

The original poster didn't know how to power the fan besides batteries. You're wanting to get him into pinning a mobo connector from a psu.

I wasn't jumping on you originally, but when you make a suggestion try and think it through. Also, that chip on your shoulder does nobody any good here. I came into this thread to help and provided the most sensible idea. You jumped in after the question was answered to get your post count up.

Its cool mate. Got my degree back in the days before you could buy them online. And i agree that the running costs would be ridiculous for a couple of case fans. Would be more cost effective just to buy a decent fan. The extra running costs using a pc psu would pay for the fan. But some people just cant afford it, and have to make use of what they have lying around. And it aint got nothing to do with post counts.

If you're only running a couple of computer fans from a PC's power supply, will it really use up the number of watts listed on the PSU or only the amount required to run the fans? I have an old 180w PSU that I can use. Will it really run constantly at 180w? Or will it only draw enough power to run the fans?

It basically only uses the power used by the fans, plus a little loss because of poor efficiency.

lmao i attached a PC fan to a regular coord by cutting the prong things off and cutting the other coords and connecting them. it was beautiful.
