WTF does "OG" Kush mean...

alright there is alot of terms iv heard for this one,...i know the police use the term "OG" as in "Original Gangster"....but for weed that is just fucking stupid i think.... i noticed Dr.GreenThumb Seeds sells the, S1 OG Kush, that they call the (Original Ghost cut)...so does that make it "Original Ghost Kush"? anyone know the actual meaning? if there is one...:joint::-?

alright that is one iv heard before, and Organic Grown...thanks for the input guys, anyone know the original breeder of the strain? i know Reserva Priva sells it with the genetics as the Chemdawg 91'....and i dont remember where but i saw a chemdawg with its genetics marked as OG kush...so im confused a little...i know the answers are prolly out there somewhere im just to lazy to find them...thanks again guys

ya man, check out some of the stories on how the chem line all cam about. i've been blessed to meet a couple of the original east coast crew who first got chemdog out on the east coast. they found a couple seeds in a batch they got from chem, and the rest is history. basically tahoe og kush and original diesil are from the same mother plant. lots of work with other offspring since then. actually, here's the story;
History of the Chemdawg Family

At a Grateful Dead show at Deer Creek Amphitheatre, 'joebrand' (aka 'wonkanobe') and 'pbud' met 'chemdog' and sold him an ounce of very high quality pot for $500. joe and chemdog exchanged numbers and they later arranged for two ounces to be shipped to chemdog on the east coast. According to chemdog, one ounce was seedless and the other had 13 seeds.

In �91, chemdog popped the first 4 seeds. From these seeds, one male was found and disposed of (chemdog was young, you can�t blame him). The 3 females were labeled �chemdawg� (now �91 chemdawg), �chemdawg a� (now chemdawg�s sister), and �chemdawg b�. In '01, chemdog and his girlfriend attempted to germ 3 more seeds, labeled �c�, �d�, and �e�. the �e� seed never germinated, �c� turned out to be junk (according to chemdog), and chemdawg �d� was the keeper. In '06, 'chemdog' and 'joebrand' reunited and joe was given 4 of the last 6 beans: Chemdawg phenos 1-4, '4' being the chosen keeper. Joe thought the '4' was the best representation of the original and thus dubbed it the 'reunion pheno'. Chemdog still has two seeds left in his stash.

Chemdawg Crosses:
� 'OG Kush' (the original cut) came from an s1 from in a bag of '91 Chemdawg in the Lake Tahoe area in 1996.
� 'Sour Diesel' aka ECSD came from an accidental cross of ('91 Chemdawg x Mass Super Skunk/NL)x DNL after the DNL hermed and seeded the room. The DNL's lineage is NL/Shiva x Hawaiian.
� Original Diesel' (also known as Diesel #1, Headband, Daywrecker Diesel, Underdawg) came from a cross of '91 Chemdawg x (Mass Super Skunk x Sensi's Northern Lights) done by a guy known as �weasel�.

� 'chemdog' and friends made several crosses that are held closely by a small group of friends and acquaintances. Among them are:

1. Super Snowdawg (Bubble Chem x [Super skunk x Oregon Sno])
2. Giesel (Chem D x Mass Super Skunk)
3. Bubble Chem (Chemdawg�s Sister x Sag's Bubbleberry)
4. Dawg Daze aka ChemHaze (Chem D x �93 Sensi's NL#5/Haze)
5. Chemdawg D x Pbud (another old-school Colorado strain)


JJ-NYC has been working on a Chemdawg D-based seed line for several years now. He started by crossing Chemdawg D to Sensi's Afghani after thoroughly testing both Sensi's Afghani and Sensi's Hindu Kush to determine which was more stable and would be better for the initial cross. JJ then did a backcross, known as "Double Dawg." Several phenos of this circulate and several people still have beans. JJ's latest work to the line is a second backcross known as "Tres Dawg" which is just starting to get tested.

Rezdog of Reservoir Seeds recently released several Chemdawg crosses as part of his 'Trinity' charity auctions. The crosses included Chemdawg D x Sensi's Hindu Kush and Snowdawg x Sensi's Hindu Kush, Chemdawg D x Sour Diesel IBL, Snowdawg x Sour Diesel IBL, ChemHaze x Sour Diesel IBL and Giesel x Sour Diesel IBL

purple, like i said in my previous post, i've been blessed to meet a couple original ec heads. the stories we read on the interent seem to be mostly true. altough these cats minds are a little cloudy from 30 years of partying! all i know do for fact, is the ecsd i got from them is the real deal, and the beisel (blueberryxecsd) is looking top notch also. take my first test clone down tonight at 77 days, same flowering time as the ecsd. took 2 ecsd down a while back, and it's idenical to what i use to get in nyc 10 years ago from the look to the flavor to the high, all the same. from what i was told, the clone i got and the stuff that has been in nyc for 15 years came from the same mother plant.

havnt had the chance to read jason kings book. sounds like a good read though, i'll make sure to check it out.

man awesome responce mrheadie..but to be clear,...chemdawg is the original legendary strain, not OG kush right?...and the OG Kush is the Self polinated version of the chemdawg?

Everyone loves a good background story, here's another except this is in regards to tetraploid strains:

The Chemdog story, like the others, is a joke, bagseed into legend, yea right. C H E M O O G (written in uppercase on a white label on the clone) can look like Chemdog to a dyslexic...OG Kush - another name change to capitalize on the Kush hype. Sorry but no Hindu Kush in it. The OG could stand for Ocean Grown as it was grown by the Pacific Ocean at UBC but it could be Original Gangsta' as it was supposedly sold, for a very high price, to a certain OMG who now have "the rights"...It is not permitted to be sold in clone form, only in finished product

all i know is the hippies my boy hooked me up with claim to be part of the original east coast crew, and their genetics seem to be in line with the story and speak for themself. these are old school hippies dedicated to growing high quality bud, and genetics are everthing to them so i have no reason to not to believe them.
also, when i live in colorado in the mid 90's we use to get some crazy headies. the og kush i've had is a mirror image of that colorado bud. i think what we were getting in colorado back then was actually the chemdog ($450oz back then) coming in from montana. that would also seem to fit the story and the timeline

I specifically put a disclaimer in there saying it's just legend. I don't know the true story, I wasn't there, It's just true that I read that bullshit in the Cannabible. It's a log of the wonderful journey one camera man takes around the world smoking every fucking pot imaginable. I'd link it but just google it.

ya, have friends that have had not so nice dealings with him. they said he was trying to act like a tough guy ganster. didnt work with 2 ex street hustler/smugglers! they ARE tough guy gansters if you make them be.

In my searching for clones I found a chem dawg (still on the vine by the way) but it did not specify if it was chem dawg c1 or c4. It will be about a week or more before it is harvested and dried. I was just waiting for the buds to get a little harder but they seem to be resisting. Does anyone know if airy buds are the norm for chem dawg.

Thanks for the clarification on the term OG Kush. I have heard it stood for Original Kush but that did not make sense since it is categorized as a pure sativa. It apparently has nothing to do with the Hindu Kush region where the real killer Kush came from plants that were used to make excellent hash. That is unless the weed Chen Dawg originally purchased just happened to be from that region. It is probably impossible to do genetics testing on weed because the original plants don't exist. You may be able to tell sativa from indica but a cross like: Dawg Daze aka ChemHaze (Chem D x �93 Sensi's NL#5/Haze) may be too mixed to sort even that out

This year I grew a Pure Kush plant. I always wondered how there could be both a Pure Kush and an Original Kush but Ocean Grown seems a little hard to swallow as the explanation. Is everyone in agreement with that Ocean Grown statement. Does anyone actually have Kush plants that came from the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. If so what is the strain called.

I got an ounce from a guy in 1979 that was supposedly Kush from that region. It was so covered with crystals that it looked like sugar frosted flakes. It was incredily stony as well. I had three seeds I got from that plant in a small container inside a box with thousands of Columbian seeds. A friend came by and was looking at my seed collection and opened that small container and dumped it in with the thousands of columbian seeds. I grew a lot of those columbian plants but never found those kush seeds. Later on someone broke into my house and stole my entire seed collection ranging from late seventies to late eighties. So I never got to see how those seeds would have turned out.

Being a sativa lover, too me OG stand for Oh Gee, I should have bought a sweet-ass sativa instead of this couch-lock crap. But that's just me.
