Too many things to comment on, but I will comment on something that I do know about. The Netherlands (not just Amsterdam) has a relaxed policy on weed. The main pressure on the Netherlands comes from countries around the Netherlands (and a few conservative minded people in some areas.) The pressure to change coffeeeshops in particular has come from an area (or city) called Maastricht. If you google you will see this is like in a little bollock of the Netherlands. The town has visitors from the surrounding countries..guess what, buying shit loads of weed, no border controls, no checks, happy days for all. But some locals didn't like the traffic. Some people forget there is more to weed, or selling it, than just the product. Coffeeshops in places get harrassed because of smell, people hanging outside, undesirables, etc, all the same things bars have. Anyway, I digress, California will NOT complain about people going there and smoking. And if the police there are in anyway in control of tourists, that will remain, Dutch police laugh at the "pissed up, out of it" tourists, but they control them in the right way.
I know a lot of people will suffer if some thing changes, and that is always bad, it is just a shame that people cannot communicate and listen in a better manner, which in turn would mean that the bill would have been better contructed and liked by everyone...I mean, if you smoke, why would you not want what a lot of the peeps above said.
Peace and love to the, No'ers and Yes'ers all the same....

EDIT: Oh, and the one other thing that is a pain in the arse at the moment to the Weed movement in NL, is the Christian Dem0cratic party, a conservative minded govt with religion, oh joy of joys
