Californians are souring on a ballot measure to legalize adult recreational use and cultivation of marijuana, according to a new poll conducted by the Public Policy Institute of California.
The poll found that 44 percent of likely voters support Proposition 19, the marijuana ballot measure, while 49 percent are opposed. The results are a significant decline from last month, when the same survey found Prop. 19 leading 52 to 41 percent.

First off, don't take too much Stock in polls. It is my implicent belief that polls are created to sway the voters. Just like all the "Polls" are saying the repukes are going to trounce the dems. I believe it is a right wing conspiracy to influence the electorate. We all know that voters want to be on the winning side. Who holds these polls acxcountable? Does anyone actually monitor the results. If I had enough money, I could start a poll, call it the medman poll and say, Democrats are winning 56-44, who could tell me different. Wait for the election and go and vote your conscience, that is all you can do. Well maybe you could try and influence all your friends, but most likely if they are your friends they would vote the same as you anyway.

..............and don't forget, how honest are the people taking the poll? They aren't exactly strapped to a lie detector. And who the fuck are the people taking these polls. however, what these polls fail to reflect are psychological phenomenons. for example, no one wants to admit bad things about themselves, like being racist. same goes here: some people are not going to want to admit that they are in favor of legalizing what has been traditionally viewed as a dangerous drug.

It could also be the case that pollsters are under representing non-traditional voters, who may be inclined to vote solely because of Proposition 19. SurveyUSA, for instance, which is one of the few polls still to show Proposition 19 favored to pass, has found a group of “uniquely motivated” voters in California — people who might be weeded out (pardon the pun) by traditional likely voter screens, but who show a strong interest in this year’s elections. These voters favor Proposition 19 by a 7:4 ratio, according to SurveyUSA’s analysis, and could make the difference between its passage and its failure.

i would love to see PPP do another poll with large sample size and breakdowns by age/gender/affiliation. but if not, i look forward to the poll that takes place on nov 2. i predict passage.

I hope you're right Buck, I hope you're right. Isn't it strange how everyone outside of Cali is hanging their hopes on this passing and most Californians are either against it or just lukewarm on the idea?

lol! I suppose that has something to do with it although I think Cali has paved the way for re-legalization by instituting very liberal MMJ laws. There are now 14 states and counting that are MMJ legal. I think people are hoping other states will follow suit and legalize for recreational use, taxing and regulating herb instead of arresting peaceful, law abiding cannabis users. What happens in Cali here in a couple of weeks will affect the entire country whether Cali believes it or not.

i mean it would be amazing to be able to just go down to the sto and pick up a 1/2 of some bomb but i just worry about the commercialization of it, did u know philip morris and rj reynolds already have advertising and marketing and everything else they need to take over OUR biz ready to go right now? theyre just waiting for the feds to get their heads out of their asses

I think I've read that before. It doesn't surprise me in the least and it definitely bothers me (I can't stand wal-mart). Corporatization is inevitable if cannabis is ever re-legalized. The nice thing is anybody who wants to would still be able to grow it themselves. They will undoubtedly try to prevent or discourage that but they can't bust everybody. I'm not concerned about availability so much as the constant threat of the door being kicked in at any moment by the feds. It's a victimless crime (It's not even really a crime) so why are there people who get busted selling or growing that get more time than a person who has harmed or killed another human? It's fucked up that more people don't see the absurdity of cannabis prohibition, especially in a supposedly "free country".

Free died with the founding fathers, along with quick and easy. You are as free as the government allows, and money controls the government. I really don't think there will ever be a really free country again, it was pretty good a few years back, when the population was less than 100 million. One could escape the bullshit by coming west, killing Indians and stealing their land. Now, the rich men have coralled most of the opportunities. Only they can be almost free. By living on large estates with body guards and having most every toy known to man, including private Jets, they can come and go as they please, buying favor from whomever they need to to be free. Private islands, 1,000+ acre ranches in foriegn countries, IE the tropics mostly, allows them the most freedom of US and other countries. I don't envy them that, but would like a little more freedom for myself. There are rich men from accross the world that own large estates right here in the US. I personally believe one should be a US citizen to own property here in the good old USofA.
