Carbon filter questions

I have never used a carbon scrubber before and I have a few questions.

Do they rid 100% of the smell? And by smell I mean a raw plant smell like a tomato plant, not a bud smell.

How do you guys implement your carbon filter and fan? Pushing or pulling air? Do you recycle air or push it to another room?

yes the get rid of 100 percent.

i have air cooled lights. when i had a filter i pulled it through the filter then my lights then it hit my inline fan the vented outside.

and it worked great for me couldn't smell a thing outside.

I still had issues with smell however my tent wasn't air tight or anything so most likely the smell leaked through tent before hit the scrubber and out.

Also anyone know how often you need to put new carbon in? I might be due soon....

Well I exhausted to my attic previously and it made my house smell, not outside. Do you remember your fan cfm and the filter cfm you used? That should have been one of my original questions, I'm curious what people use (same cfm, or use a filter that has a higher or lower cfm rating than fan).

I'm doing some research on carbon filters, the brand I plan on buying (can-filter) says 18 months. I wonder if that's a "real world" number or a BS test number tho.

not sure what a filter cfm is but I have a 6" 342cfm fan. But I use a fan controller and usually keep it at about 75%. Also use ONA Gel which helps.

I exhausted mine into the same room but kept the door open to let new air in.

Did you find anything out about replacing the fabric along the outside of the filters? Or is it only the carbon?

you need to vent outside... and have a good intake. your plants need the all the air in the room to be replace every 5 min. or so. i have a 740 cfm fan and my room is 10x8x9, thats 720 cubic feet so my fan replaces the air every minute. (cfm=cubic feet per min.)

and you need to get a carbon filter rated for 342 cfm or higher or it may restrict air flow

ohhh i never knew that last part. My carbon filter and Fan came together in a package on Ebay. So hopefully they work together hehe.

The tent I use is only 2.7x2.7x5.8f or so. basically 45 cubic feet. The tent is inside my bathroom so thats the crappy part but i keep the door open for new air.

LOL damn too late. Another person mentioned that in another thread too but oh well, I picked one up before work today already. I just got done setting everything up too. I will post back tomorrow if it works or not.

Got home from work tonight and there is no smell what so ever. The filter works great.

I used a 6in HO 440cfm canfan with a 612cfm can-filter (306cfm minimum). My room is 12.5x9.5x8, although my actual grow space is about half that.
