EZ-Cloner problem

I have an EZ-cloner that I used quite successfully in the past. This batch hasn't gone so well though.

It is a 60 site cloner. Tap water at 220ppm. Aquarium heater at 79F. Water change once a week.

After 3 weeks there are no roots. Is this batch beyond rooting now and like plants in a vase?

The only difference this time was I added Cloramine-T at 20ppm. That is about .5 g for 6 gallons of water. Maybe it was too strong a concentration.

I have cloned it successfully in coconut coir plugs in the past.

I drained and kept the same plants. I added 8 gal of water with 4 oz of H2O2 and adjusted the ph to 5.5. Roots started though I lost half the plants. I also added new clones to the cloner in case the old ones don't seem hearty enough.

I got the chloramine idea from a recent Skunk magazine article. The author swore by it for keeping the reservoir clean, but maybe it was in the author's tap water already. Perhaps 5ppm is a better starting point but that's another experiment.

Dont use H2O2 with clones, only use that with rooted plants for oxygen...

I'm using H2O2 to keep the bacteria down, not to oxygenate the root zone. I keep the reservoir at 79F for cloning. It gets pretty funky in a week without H2O2. That also why I was trying cloramine. The EZ-clone keeps the reservor aerated with an aquarium pump and perforated tube.

I was looking for the link but can't seem to find it that explains how h2o2 will inhibit rootgrowth on clones.. If they have roots I like using it.. But that may be 1 of the issues you're having.. Sorry I cant find the link, it was an actual study...

Bet of luck to ya, its probaly just a finicky strain you're growing??

Try regualr tap water with a drop of superthrive or just plain tap water. ive had to wait 3+ weeks to get my damn ak to start showing roots, boy let me tell ya i almost ditched them, until a close inspection i saw tiny white bumps which in turn lead to roots in a matter of days.
id say drain ur ez cloner and fill with regualr water and see if they come back and root if not start over with plain water and fresh cuttings.

I hated growing AK, and you're right that strain is a biotch to clone (atleast mine was), so I stopped growing it..

My indica strains all clone super easy, usually within 7 - 10 days I have roots...

Im guessing you used store bought H202?? . because 4 oz/175ml 35% to 8 gallons would of burned a hole in your box.. not really, but damn. I believe the store bought 3% doesnt break down right and becomes useless if not does harm by leaving harmful ? behind.. 35% h202 on the other hand is great in the garden if you use a synthetic nutrient regimen. I use it in my clonex solution. And Al b. fuct used it with tap as a stand alone clone solution in his thread. A batch of clones in rockwool. I would definately use it in an aerocloner. It almost seems like that would be the most important additive.imo.

@doniawon: Yes, store h2o2 3%.

Since half my clones have roots now, I added 1 oz of Clonex, 1/4ml Superthrive, 1 scoop of Great White Mycorrhizae (3 days after h2o2), 1tsp Hygrozyme, and 1tsp SM-90. The resevoir is 110PPM, 79F, 5.5pH. The plants look happy. I'll see if the new clones take the whole 3 weeks too. I will need some from both sets of clones to get a full crop.

It is a Widow x Haze genetics. Thanks for the heads up on the AK. I am hoping to try that in the coming year.

Do be completely honest it sounds lime your doing to much. I fill my ez cloned with water and kick it on that's it. and i have rooted every clone I eve put in there

i agree. thats alot of money. especially with the great white. that shits not cheap. and im not so sure its not being killed as soon as it hits your brew. instead of h202, hygrozyme and sm-90, maybe just use one. And drop the great white with the sanitizers, they dont support bacteria growth or existence.

79F is at the uppper end of where you want to be for an EZ - although the manual that comes with it says 78F, that's a load of horseshit (IMO).

Try to keep your temps more around 70F and you'll have to clean less and have much less problems with pathogens - might delay rooting by a day or two, but it's really worth it for minimizing headaches.

That 78F number is if you're in a lab under clinical conditions with ZERO pathogens; any pathogens are gonna have a fucking party at 78F.
