Growing Under the Stairs with CFLs (My Video Journal)

Just for this grow. I'm hoping to gain some (if any) capital from this grow, and purchase some better equipment. HPS and some decent ventilation are my two goals for the WW I am vegging right now. I should be ready to clone around the time I harvest this grow.

cool vids, Im new to RIU but ur journal caught my eye. how many weeks in are you and what strain(s) are you growing? I would be really interested to see how much weight you yield off this grow vs. say a 400w HPS next time, add also the change in electricity cost. You should at least gain enough capital to buy a good hps, but remember, u get what u pay for plan on spending 200 for the bulb, ballast, and reflector then u gotta figure in ventilation. Props for a well documented grow, I will be lookin forward to seeing what happens around harvest time.

Thanks. I'm trying to get a new video posted, but I've been held up. I will post my new vid soon. Thanks for the feedback.

I have followed your video journal from the beginning. I think you are being way too hard on yourself. I think you did just fine for your first grow. Clearly, you have many challenges that most growers do not have to deal with. Drop ceilings, stairways, doors and no clear way to duct in and out is a huge obstacle. As you stated, lots of fans just blow around the same hot air. There are benefits to air movement so it is not like the fans are not helping, they are.

I have a WW (FEM Dutch Passion) that I am growing for the party cup grow off (another thread and I had a left over bean) and it is a very picky strain. I grew it for a year or so and decided it was too high maintenance to use for my main grow. Also the flowering time was 10 weeks + for my strain.

I think you will find that your plant will provide you with a fair amount of excellent bud, and isn't that the real measure of success? Many first time growers don't even make it to harvest. This hobby is a hands on learning experience and you will only get better with practice. I read as much as I can and always stay open minded to new ideas. This problem of ventilation needs to get addressed eventually and you will figure something out. There is always more than one way to skin a cat. You have no doubt learned much from this grow and will continue to learn from your mistakes. Soldier on and embrace the challenges. I will continue to follow along.

Tommy, thanks for the words of encouragement. They are most appreciated. :) I was wondering what your thoughts are regarding portable air conditioners. I was thinking about setting one up in that room and using the water drainage from the condensation to feed the plants. What are your thoughts?

how will a slide under the door help with his ventilation problems?

he is having issues trying to get new air into the room.. thats what ventilation is....

i dont think a slide that goes under the door will be of ANY help, unless your trying to cut down on smell.. which is still a questionable method..

your doing a great job GreenNerd420 its your 1st grow, its a decent size and its still alive.. better than my 1st time..

my 1st time growing me and a girlfriend in 8th grade grew a plant on her property, had no idea what to do.. killed it and smoked the leaves before it even started flowering:wall:

there's no way you can take a 4 in. hole saw and just MAKE a ventilation hole?
stick 4in ducting, conect it to an inline fan and carbon filter..
BAM you've got circulating air.. buy a block of dry ice, boil water, place boiling water in grow room, drop in 2.5 lbs of dry ice in boiling water, close room..

now you have a c02 enriched grow environment with proper ventilation..

there is so many alternative methods.. stay positive, grow for the experience..

i never said it was for the ventalation its for the light he has leaking out of the room as far at temp goes cut into the dry wall in the ceiling you should be able to cut into one of your a/c pipes and rout it to your grow

he has drop ceilings... not as easy as drilling a hole.. once there's any weight applied the ceiling panel will fall/break/ect..

i hope you figure anything out.. be careful what advise you take..

you clearly said "to prevent air leaks"

GreenNerd420- as i previously stated, i would look into using a 4 in hole saw and make a little hole for a ventilation hose.. it would lower temps, and increase your atmospheric PPM..

good luck

"pritty cool for the light issue there is a thing they sell in walmart it slides under the door it to prevent the air from leaving your room" i clearly said for the light issue. and the thing that they sell at walmart is to prevent air from leaving your room or entering. sooo i found a product at walmart that also has a secondary use. soo you clearly failed the sentence comprehension part of your SAT's.
