Look into hydro it isnt hard and will out perform dirt every time as long as you maintain proper ph, nutes, temp, and humidity... You would want to do this with dirt anyway! Good luck

Just dig up a bit of unknown dirt from your backyard and just give your plants nothing but water - if that.

Or maybe do some reading in these forums.

Soil media should contain no more than 10% dirt. The rest of the components of the mix should be drainage materials and organic amendments. Search for soil mixes in these forums, plenty of good recipes out there for mixing soil media or buy a pre-mixed media like Sunshine #4, Pro mix, Fox farms or any well drained commercial potting mix. Using only soil for a mix will result in poor drainage and waterlogged plants, eventually resulting in failure.

From your question it is clear that you have not done enough reading on the subject and will just be wasting your money. i suggest spending more time in this forum researching what it is you want to do.

You can also get some ingredients and mix up your own :) Tons of info on your subject in many posts/books/tutorials/etc. Depending on where you live the 'dirt' may be terrible for growing, or good, who knows. Chances are the soil from your yard is not good (doesn't sound like you are actively working to make it good soil, or you wouldn't have asked :D).
