yield question

ok, i know there are alot of variables, but what should i expect to yield on average per plant with no co2?

I am growing in a 5x5 tent with 600w hps in soil. I am averaging about 1oz dried per plant. This is a little disappointing given all the big yield threads i read.

what would be an average yield given the above? If everything was right, should i expect 1oz, 2oz etc?

This is one of the biggest variables.

The single 600w lamp that you are using is only good for a maximum 4x4 footprint.

My honest answer would be to maximise and do something along the lines of a SOG.

Lots of single cola 6-8inch plants which could yield around 1/2oz per plant and you could probably fit around 30plants in there 15oz from all maybe!!!!!

Its actually 1.2mx1.2m

400w 1mx1m
600w 1.2mx1.2m
1000w 1.55mx1.55m

In a standard open reflector.

You can get more coverage dependant upon the type of reflector you use.

Anything outside the above area would need secondary lighting from either CFL's or another lamp.

With enough Veg time to create the root structure then yes you can. BUt like the OP mentioned its all about the variables.

You shoud aim to get 1/8th but under the right conditions you could quite happily get around 1/2oz.

This is also based on SOG which is where you take clones from mothers not growing from seed.

There lies your problem. The 600w cannot penetrate that far down on a plant.

You need to keep plants smaller when growing indoors.

using uncle ben's topping to get 4 colas. I was thinking of adding co2 and trying lst for next grow. What do you think?

The trouble is that you need to keep plants smaller when growing indoors.

I recently grew 2 3ft plants under 1 x 600w HPS

1 of the plants harvested 3.5oz and the other only 1.5oz they were 2 different strains.

I would look to keep maybe 4-6 plants under your light switching to 12/12 once they hit 10inches tall then they should finish under 3 ft and all being well you should get around 1-2oz per plant.

But plant stress nute lock ph problems over watering etc can all cause yield losses.

Something else to also consider is to try and keep an even canopy.

Also removing some of the bottom growth may help you out some more too. Due to the inverse square law of artificial lighting the amount of light that is hitting the bottom areas of your plant is very small with them being so tall. But the plant is still using energy trying to develope those lower areas.

Your options are simple.

either Grow a single plant and clone it multiple times before you go into flower and use around 15x 6-8inch plants keeping them small and look to get alot of little plants harvesting a small amount rather than a single plant trying to get a bigger amount. This way you are making the most of your lighting.

Or

Grow around 4 2ft tall plants keeping everything in check such as pH, temps, RH, EC/ppm , air exchange etc and look to get around 2-3oz per plant.

You are using some good techniques if you are using UNCLE BENS topping but you need to control your heights more.

You would still be better off keeping less plants smaller in height.

Even with LST the idea behind it is that you tie down the branches in order to get more main colas. You would still have a yield problem if your canopy was too dense because again the light would not penetrate far enough into the canopy.

In my opinion i would look to grow just a few plants get your training technique down, Uncle bens topping and keep the canopy even and around 1-2weeks before you go 12/12 look to clean around 1/3-1/2 of the lower growth from the plant.

This way with adaquate variables you could easily increase your average per plant keeping them under 2ft tall.

You could grow 10 plants if you used a light rail. BUt again you shouldnt grow them so tall.
