All right all. What up? I read all 166 pages since starting my coco grow. Now my plants are doing great in part to Jberry and other folks. I was watering only when the pots felt dry and then read a post by Jberry stating that his partner was watering like mad and getting great results. So I thought Wtf and tried it. WOW! what an improvement! These fuckers grew like crazy since watering every day. The tallest are in 1 gallon pots and grow about 1" every day!, at least. So I just wanted to say props to the coco growers and lets get this shit started.
I have grown for years and years in dirt with great results. The past year was all aero with good results. But now with coco! Shit! great growth and much easier and less care.

got a quastion here, if i water every day will that cause over watering the plants in the coco soil. but it does make sens what you boys are saying becouse coco hase loads of air in it, so the roots have anuf suply, and if i do water every day is it the same prosidger as normel wartering, for example water till you get a run of

Coco should be thought of more as hydro since when ever you water there should be nutes in the water. you will get faster growth if you dont let the coco dry out, so watering once a day is great some even feed more then 1 time a day. i personaly only water once a day

I know, the possibilities........... But i'll probably try feeding every 2 to 3 days first. Plus, it's to much work to feed everyday.

In hydroponic grows you have to feed often to get optimal yields.
Although its kinda true that you're wasting nutrients by watering everyday because a lot of the nutrients won't be absorbed everytime... It is also true that your yields will also be larger if you water everyday.
If you are only watering every 3-4 days then your yields are suffering from it. Even if things seem good, they could be better.
For coco grows I would say that you should be watering a minimum of every other day... if you feel that the container is still too heavy & wet on that feeding schedule then I would suggest using a smaller container or trying to use some different techniques to get a bigger root mass on future grows so that the plant can take up larger amounts of water faster.

Canna Coco can be watered up to six times a day and Canna actually recommends watering everyday right on the bag's label... Using methods like this will produce the bigger yields then any other watering method according to Canna and other research I've done on watering/feeding coco.

I try to get my plants/roots big enough so that I need to water everday, but I water every other day as a minimum no matter what or yields drop off the chart.

i feed 4 times a day. i strongly agree with jb. here are pics of my indoor and outdoor grows. my indoor plants i yiled from 1.5 to 2.5 pounds per plant.

there is also a cople grow journals from Mbalze who yields over 1 pound per plant usnig the same feeding method as me but with smaller pots and even less light.

im only a noob but i really believe the more u feed the more u will yield

Lisen to Jberry, man i been reading his posts now with his advice my grow has improved alot since my last run in coco i was watering about every 2 days in my last grow it looked good and every thing but my yield wasnt what iv seen from other grows it was good (I got about 6 OZ off 2 plants i vegged for a month and LST'ed under a 400 MH/HPS) but it could have been better as you can see from the bud structure

yes mate they will live, I guess u got ya pen working or a new one? I hardly every check my ph as i got good tap water and the canna nutes seem to bring it down to a nice level by themselfs.

pH measurements in Coir

Coco coir buffers pH in the range of 5.5 – 7. However bacterial activity and nutrient quality can have an impact on pH stability within the media.
Another misconception I have commonly encountered is that by measuring the run off (waste) in coir it is possible to measure the pH of the medium.


Let’s quickly dispel with this myth. Coir media will retain some elements and release others (a process of preferential retention of cations) based on the uptake needs of plants and the prevailing conditions of/within the media.

Because of this, measuring the run off (waste) will not reflect the pH within the coir medium (i.e. the rhizosphere environment of the plants).

The correct way to measure pH, in coco substrate, is to take samples of the media from around the root zone. These samples are then added to distilled water, then vigorously shaken or blended and tested with a pH meter. This method will provide you with the correct pH within the coir media (rhizosphere) environment.​

I guess one thing to clarify on the watering everyday is that you have to have the root structure in the pots to accomodate it. I am saying this from reading all the posts here and from my garden as well. If you have a small plant in a 1 gal container than watering this everyday will hurt it. But my tall silver haze, ~4 ft. tall, need at least once a day watering. I have some shorter durbanxdiesel in the same size pot and once a day is too much for those.

I'm also broke so instead of paying for fresh new medium, I decided to husk and shred a coconut from the backyard. Has anyone tried this yet (successfully) or is all the coco coir store bought?

I would be so scared of trying this just do to the fact of bugs! Let alone of trying this without trying to sterilize the coco, or trying to buffer. The buffering doesn't worry me as much as trying to sterilize it. Come on dude for the $4 bones a bag is it worth it?

buy your coco man, the loose stuf generally runs no more than $30-$35 for about 45-50liter bags. dont get the bricks because most of the time you have to buffer them yourself(Jberry might have a recipe for that). but if you did get the bricks, they dont run that much. and if i remember straight, it doesnt cost much to make the buffering solution. but i dont think that making your own is a good idea. besides when they prep the coco they sterilize it and let it age for like 16-24 months if i recall correctly. i understand money is tight, but you may want to sacrifice a few bucks to keep from sacrificing your time, nutes, your plants, and money. just my opinion though.

coco has soo much salt in ity naturally that it will surely kill your plants unless you soak and rinse it like 20 times and even that may not be enough... after rinsing all the salt out you would need to buffer it.
