it's a little thing, but it points out the larger problem with our attitudes toward the function of government in our lives. we seem to have decided that the small everyday annoyances are something that our representatives should be concerned with. i'm sure that it was one of "us stupid people" who felt it necessary to bring up the subject in the first place and "these fucking idiots" responded not just to please their constituents, but to gain just a little more control over the private sector. when the people should be demanding more control over their lives, they are delegating that responsibility to political animals that they know perfectly well cannot be trusted. we have become too lazy to use the marketplace as it should be used, by complaint and petition directly to the offending party. religion may be the opiate of the masses, but government is quickly becoming its antibiotic. a panacea with more dangerous hazards than than the ills it cures.

Funny they had time for that but not for the budget. "Congress adjourned this week, leaving behind a lot of important unfinished business – basic things like passing a budget " LINK

The author here likens a family to the government or a business. The government is not like either one (though at times it should function in a similar manner as some private businesses). A government actually can go into deficit spending (and many economists agree it is wise to do so at certain times). And the current budget proposal and tax cuts are very political at the moment. The Democrats are going to make an attempt for the upcoming elections to use the tax cuts as a tool in their fight against Republicans. While they advocate extending the tax cuts for families making less than 250k, they're going to allow for the tax cuts to expire for those making over 250k. I don't understand why you or others have not been able to pick up on this; this is their proposed agenda.

And there is no universal agreement on what a small business is. I've worked with a consulting agency at one point during high school where I assisted a consultant in his leads and work. He told me that a typical private business owner should, if he is doing his job correctly, be able to pull home about 10% of revenue at the end of the year. If 250k+ is 10% of your revenue, then you're not in the category of small business...at all.

I do agree a lot of the things Congress does is fucking retarded at times, and they dabble way too far into public affairs.

i personally am glad that they can't put commercials at ridiculous volumes anymore.

that shit is just annoying.

it took an act of congress to get my credit card payment date on the same day each month, i guess it took an act of congress to get commercials at a reasonable, non-blaring volume.

indeed, thank god for congress.

What is annoying is when some Enzyte or Viagra commercial of Girls Gone Wild commercial comes on when I'm with my parents or younger cousins and other family. It just feels so uncomfortable. Those 30 seconds to minute is the longest of my life. It's like having the sex talk. lol.

What a waste, you know TV manufacturers already have a special feature that makes everything the same volume on their TV's. Some manufacturers don't use this feature, but I know my Sony has it. This is not a problem that needs political clout, this is a problem the free market can overcome and has. Waste of my income tax to pay these idiots to even entertain such madness.

They waste their time on tons of things like commemorating a day for a bridges anniversary and stupid shit like that. LOL at least this actually does make a difference, insignificant as it is. I have a nice TV and have that option , doesnt work for shit though.
