i know exactly how your dad feels! lol

sounds to me your doing the right thing though. I cant remember the last time i heard someone say 'i really regret giving it that extra week', in fact, i dont think ive ever heard it. one thing i would add is if your looking for 70%+ amber, be sure to keep in mind the rate at which your trichs are changing. if they start changing more quickly, you may want to go for a number closer to 50-60%. remember that there is still some degradation of trichs (clear > cloudy, cloudy > amber) during the curing process.

Then again, ive always wondered how awesome a bud with 100% amber trichs (preferably on an indica) would be =D

same here man. the only thing im worried about in this extra week is mold. had a few more bits pop up. only tiny tiny bits, nothing to really worry about. got rid off them so all is good.
i actually checked the trichs last night, my best one has about 30-40% amber. so im actually thinking about harvesting it tonight. only because of mold issuses too. wouldnt want to lose to much at this point, id be pissed! il check the trichs again tonight. if its over 50% il proberly chop. other wise il wait.
yea and also, in some places there isnt much amber, then in others, its coverd in amber. thats okay though isnt it?

the one thing is, not all the popcorn buds have fully devolped, some still have white hairs protruding. will they still be okay to harvest? or do i leave them on to grow some more. because if i did. there wouldnt really be any fan leaves, seeing as they are all dieing, falling off or going yellow. so do i harvest them like normal too.
i suppose not everywhere will be ready at the same time.
everyhing else on the plant looks beautiful and ready.

100% amber trichs! now that would be some heavy indica! on my next grow i might give that ago. would love to have some smoke like that!

your undersites may never get any bigger, even if you delay chopping them. BUT, they will mature a bit more and recede those hairs, so really its up to you whether you want to let them finish or not. i tend to harvest it all at once, and just quick dry the popcorn stuff and use it as temporary smoking material while i wait for my cure =D

second, you could just harvest it at once, and just add that popcorn to your trim collection, using it later for hash or whatnot. lots of options, but in the end, it probably wont get bigger, it will just ripen.

As for the trichs, ive noticed the same thing, and thats why you need to take it all into account. My buds have 20% amber in some spots, but OVERALL its still actually probably less than 10% amber, 10%, cloudy, and 80% clear. its just some sugar leaves frosted up really early, so they will bronze before the bud itself is actually ready. to counter this, i try to only pay attention to the trichs on the actual bud itself (its calyxes), not the sugar leaves protruding from it. Once again, this isnt the sole deciding factor, but we already know your hairs have receded and your calyxes are swollen.

Chop one leave the others, just an option!! Twist one up for your dad to burn while he watches the others grow for that extra week! Its only gonna be that much better IMO. Other than that, every thing looks tasty! :weed:

i thought they may never get bigger. the hairs are starting to recede now on the popcorn buds. when i chop, some might still have white pistils but that dont matter.
like you said, il either add that to my hash makeing stash or just have them for something to smoke while the rest is curing.

i mainly put my scope on the actual bud when i inspect the trichs, same as you. just because you do get a much better idea with whats going on with the trichs on the actual bud. on my main cola id say 40% amber today. the rest is about 10% - 30% in different places. the buds dont seem to be growing much more now. i can say the smell seems to be getting a little bit stronger? might be me though haha. i dont usualy check the leaves, this is because i know im only going to cut them off for hash. i try and get as much leaf of as i can. i like to have just calyxes :D feels like a better buzz and taste. obviously there is a bit of leaf, as im not a world class trimmer lol. and i need some better trimming siccors. need more pointy ones to get in the bud.

its so tempting to chop. but again im gonna go another day. see what tomorrow brings. maybe tomorrow will be chop day? who knows.

i was thinking about it, but i think im just gonna chop all at the same time now. make things easier. lucky for my dad, i got a runt that finished about a week ago. so he has some of that to smoke. but not much, i want another weeks cure on them :D. off a little runt plant, about 30 cm tall, give or take i got 10 grams dry. so not bad really for a tiny plant. also the smoke is nice and sweet. with dense buds, not bad for crappy bagseed! smells a bit like some kind of sweet, candy or what ever you wanna call it.

weeks nearly over for the chop:D happy times

easy dude

glad to hear that you have a plan man, that's half the battle. what curing method are you using again? maybe i missed it in the thread. Iam looking into other options as my last cure didn't go so well (was just a typical dry/jar, but i think i didn't burn enough and let to a very mild case of rot).

I know what ya mean on the trimming too, i do what i can to get flush up against the buds, but i haven't got a decent pair of trimmers either, so its hard to get in and get em all at the bast, especially in the denser nugs. Getting a few pairs of nail scissors? iam not sure what they are called, they tend to be in the health and beauty aid area in stores, almost looks like an old school roach clip but smaller and actually has sharp edges, (heres some images from google). Had a pair last harvest and they were working AWESOME, until they broke, which i think was just because they were quite old. Not so great for your overall work, but good to really get in there and get those sugar leaves at the base in the dense nugs. The +/- sides are, while you need to scrape them just about every other nug (their size means they get coated in resin to the point of not working well rather quickly), you get to put that resin straight into a pipe, and get a nice hit of hash each time =D

For my cure im just hanging them up to dry till the buds are dry on the outside and the stems splinter a lttle bit. sometimes they dry in three days, then other times a a week. then im sticking them in jars. if they get to moist when i open the next day i leave the jar open and get some out to dry a little bit more. ill be doing it for at least two weeks, or untill my buds are nice and dry with not much moisture. im just gonna do some bits longer than others and see what the difference is like. im even gonna get about 7 grams and store it away for half a year or so, just to see if it gets that much better. obviously i proberly wont ever do that again or much, because i dont want to wait that long to have my smoke haha. just an experiment that id like to do.
how are you going to cure this time? what are you thinking of doing?

i got some scissors at the mo that are pretty cool, they are spring loaded and very sharp. its just for the little bits you cant quite get into unless you have a nice pair of pointy ones. like you said its the dense nugs that are the hardest to get into. it looks like you do a wikid job. then it drys and shrinks and you see more leaf again where you didnt get deep enough.

here are the scissors that im going to get.http://www.amazon.com/Fiskars-Softouch-Scissors-1-75-Inch-99217097/dp/B00007M9MM/ref=sr_1_6?s=gateway&ie=UTF8&qid=1285235384&sr=8-6 gonna order them online. i think they look pretty good. will be easier on the hand too with springloaded scissors.
if you type in "spring loaded scissors" or "trimming scissors" on amazon it will come up with loads of different ones. there are a few on there that are pretty good. and not to expensive either! you should take a look. also there are some that are called "bud clean" that look pretty decent to. i dont think they are on amazon though. youl have to google them.
and yea man i love that scissor hash! has such a nice taste and gets you baked :D. proberly one of my favourite things about trimming haha :D
