I'm using 2 250w ballasts both can run mh & hps (one ballast has super lumen switch for hps)
Whats the best way about using both types of bulbs from start to finished...??

The lumen switch does make the bulb burn brighter but can only be used on hps..
This making me think to use hps all the way through the grow..

So many questions and so many answers... My minds boggled..!!

I would use just one 250 with a mh bulb to veg with then when ready to flower use both 250s with hps bulbs in.
You can use the switch to make it brighter but that will shorten the life of the bulb.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Nice bouncing titties, btw!

well there are alot of growers that have done flowering with MH and HPS for a broader spectrum. and they say it increase trich production would use hps up till 3 weeks before flower then put in 1 mh bulb to see for your self

i meant using one of each bulb near the last weeks of flower theri have been multiple of growers who have done it and say it increase the trich production, i want to do it myself to see the results i get but havent had the chance to. i was just throwing it out theri so mabye if you wanted to try it, it wouldt do any harm. but its up to you

the thing to do nowadays if you have both is mh beginning of flower to reduce stretch / hps mid flower to give you hard solid buds / and mh at end to increase final growth n of bud thickining thats if you are a perfectionist

im not i have a 250w CMH luv it by Philips, and a eye Hortilux 250w HPS i run them at the same time the cmh runs in a hps ballast i rotate plants every other week and spin pots on odd weeks i throw in my uvb for flower on for an hour a day i keep it as far away as poss in a 3 by 3 tent the two together works fine total of 500 watts multy spectrum luvin it the look of the cmh unbelievable like day light a show room or something when i got mine new a few months ago i cleaned my old hps and its glass for reflector man what a diff especially if you mist

good luck

actually vegging with a hps gives the plants very tight nodes and very good growth it just cost more to run

Not to contradict a more experienced grower, but I've always heard and believe that HPS is a much more efficient light than a MH of the same wattage. I've found that my 400w HPS produces less heat and uses less AC than the MH which I use for vegging. I think ideally MH is for best for vegging and HPS for the flowering. If I were to pick just one for the whole growth cycle it would be HPS hands down. On the same hand if AC usage and heat production isn't a problem, I would use both at once for both phases.

Yeah I tried the mh conversion for the first time this grow i see the difference in how they grow. But if i had to choose just one light it will be hps as well.

I thought hps gave the most lumens per watt...?

But anyway what I'm reading here is to use Mh towards the last couple of weeks of flowering...

Thanks guys..

Really?Every time i veg with my hps its cheaper to run and my plant grows thicker stems with longer node spacing. So what hps are you using?
i meant more then CFL, i veg under those cuz its much cheaper and easier with the same results as a MH pretty much. and when i vegged with my HPS i had very short stocky plants no matter the strain and i had 5 going. i had the thick stems but i also had nodes every half inch to an inch on a different strain none of my plants seemed to have lankyness even when i didnt veg under the hps. and i used the 600 watt hps digi greenhouse from HTG.

Ok that explains it better.

for all you hps people the new ceramic metal hilide bulb by Phylips runs on hps ballast its the max of mh the future check it out for self im luvin it wit my eye hortilux run together @ 250w each 500w total full light spectrum for the girls throw in my uvb for flower and im set

buds galore a pot spin here and there and rotate plant position once a week to get a bit of both lights you get different plus and minus at different times of flower stage first two weeks or so cmh / better middle growth hps/ last two weeeks mh better so i just keep them moveing and spinning

luck to all and whatever works for you
dont forget theirs a hundred ways to do the same thing
i love to experiment sometimes you have to pay for it though
but you always learn sometimes its what not to do is the lesson we leave with
