seems to me that there are alot of people that give other people advice about growing indoor and the advice is horrible. They should make it a rule that if you dont know for certain your advice is correct you should not be able to give it or at least have a thread that only certain people can respond to that way when a first time grower needs some advice he will get off to a gud start with gud habits and the right information to have a successful grow.
just my opinion, but hey what do I know

I see all to often someone giving crappy advise and then, they jump to do, not realizing that they will do more harm than good. People have to understand What make a plant tick. Knowing what to do at the right time. Learn to Read your plants. Allot just want the answer to their question, when they should be learning how it all works!

Read+Research=Reward!
Less is More
More is Less

That is why you should take all advise. Absorb the info, think about it, have patience, find out all possibilities before reacting, and just grow it!
I am learning always and have been doing allot or research and have found most are in a rush to do something Now, instead of trying to figure the problem on their own before their problem becomes to late, need learn what Must be done and when. I have learned just to let them do what they want, Only give what is Needed not what you Feel it needs.

I have done allot of reading and more here should too! All the info is here, just have to be willing to put some time in and Look for it. I now try not to ask allot of Questions, as this makes you look like you don't have the time to Care! If you cannot take the time to try Why should someone else do the same for you. At least try to find out the Basics, and then you will be more prepared to ask the Proper questions. Hell I've been up for the last few days doing nothing but Reading and trying to figure it all out, I am trying to gain to Knowledge to Succeed. Through others peoples experiences I am trying to Learn what not to do! True Wisdom come from learning from your/others mistake and not repeating them. Hell everyone makes a mistake, that is how you learn...Its not a mistake the first time you do something wrong, its a learning experience, the second time you do it is a mistake because you did not learn your lesson. Wisdom is applying the Knowledge to Succeed!

Just my thoughts...good thread starter MrSS. :joint::peace:

No it's not just you, I thought I was the only one thinking along these lines on here. I have been a member here now for almost 4 years. My screenname changed last Sept when RIU had a computer problem and lost my profile and all my saved threads, friends and notepad info. Such is life though, the worst part was losing my reps and RIU seems to have changed the way points are given and your little stoner or Mr Ganga are given to people.
I have seen far too many people that have been here a short time with names and little green boxes given that give people looking at their advice would assume they know what the hell they are talking about. Example was earlier in the week a person with high marks, lots of responses given started a thread asking if their grow was ready to harvest. I looked up his profile and read some of his posts/advice it was terrible. The person didn't know squat but was Johnny on the Spot telling folks what to do and when it came to his or hers own grow was looking for advice on when to harvest. I have to wonder what harm he has done to people silly enough to listen and follow their advice. There are several of these examples I have come across since I have returned to RIU the past few months.
I don't know what the answer is to this problem and how a true rating system can be achieved but it is will worth looking into. I know another problem we are facing today and this site as good as it is and all the good that comes from it. Younger people today in general(not saying all) are basically either very ignorant, lazy or plain stupid, possibly a combination of all of the above. People seem willing to start a new thread asking a question expecting to be given new answers when the thread exists already or maybe even have a sticky they can look it up. We are given a search area to bring us all information available on site to us in seconds, today we have computers and google not to belittle other search engines. This is not the go to the library, buy countless books and other means of research my generation had to go through to find answers to their questions. Maybe people today are just spoiled that everything is available with a few well chosen keystrokes.
I try not to offer advice unless I am pretty sure of the answer, have had the same problem and offer how I dealt with it or through an opinion I have based on knowledge gathered over 40 plus years of growing MJ and close to 50 years of going plants in general. I only wish that some others would follow the same advice.
I will close by saying I truly enjoy this site, I have made many friends which share similiar beliefs in the way to grow organically, have learned many technical things which I never would have and in general love to share my thoughts on growing organically in the soil. I hope that given some time and maybe some willingness on the newer younger members we can stop some of the bitching when opinions differ, learn and teach others to research a subject and how to enjoy a way of life today that people of my generation worked so hard to bring to the mainstream of culture.:joint:
Never assume the person giving advice is correct unless you can find other means to verify, study the subject you are having the problem with, read everything you can on the subject in question. Always be willing to try something new, the other person may be correct and keep tempers and egos in check when posting.

Just my thoughts about a great site and a forum to allow me to rant. Happy Growing to all

The internet is a great source of information but it's a double edged sword. The anonymity provided by the internet also attracts some folks who want to pretend to be something they are not. Some people unwittingly give out bad advice while others seem to do it on purpose just to fuck with people or start e-fights. Always verify any information given to you by someone you've never met. Experiment and find what works for you. There is a lot of good information here but you have to dig to find it. I've been trying to warn other growers about a certain individual who is giving out shitty advice and has been banned numerous times from here for giving bad advice, trolling the place up, threatening other members, etc. It seems to be falling on deaf ears so I'm not sure there is much else I can do.

Before you take anyone's advice, check their grow journal. If you like what you see, take their advice ;).

Excellent advice homebrewer. There are so many people here who pretend to advise other folks who have NEVER done a grow.
I am very pleased if anyone wants to look at my journal.

I Try and search on whatever I can - if I see someone asking really simple stuff I'll answer them (after telling them there IS already a thread about their problem) knowing what I've told them has worked for me a few times...quite often someone else will come in and confirm what I've told them which is good to know, therefore they SHOULD feel better before taking the advice...and if it doesn't work for them, they can't solely blame me lol

I only advise people on what I have actually DONE - what I have tried and found works (or doesn´t) for me.

Many people are happy to quote what they have only READ - which is often an Old Wives´ Tale - and believe me there are LOADS of them.

I disagree. Its a forum...its made for OPINIONS and PERSONAL METHODS. not 100%fullproof advice. if you want that theres google right next to the address bar for ya!

I agree. Is a shame but there are a lot of people who read something and believe it to be the truth.
Oh well, live and learn I guess.
