What is topping? and how is it done? also what are the benefits from it? dont know what that is and i keep seeing people talk about it.
really dont make any sense to me but i guess i got to do more research. what are some of the benefits of doing that?topping is basically when the plant is at nice height before flowering right at the top. just cut it to stop the bush growing upwards then instead it thickens/bushens more then the same procedure can be applied if needed to the side stems hope this makes sense.
thanks for the info my guy. and to awnser ur question .45Hello Reloaded,
Offtopic; what calibur?
Think of a Christmas tree. When it is young it looks just like it does when its gets older, that traditional shape with with wide base that goes up to a nice point to put your decorations on. If left to grow wild the tree will grow a hundred feet(species dependent) with a huge wide bottom going up to that singular tip a hundred feet in the air. Marijuana will grow in a similar fashion if left unchecked.
The problem with leaving your plant to grow unchecked is that the plant will put most of its energy into growing its main stalk as tall as it can, leaving the undergrowth the option to grow outward(think Xmas Tree). Now the top of your plant is growing into the light while the foliage below is to far away to receive light effectively.
Back in the Day, people used to cut the top off and then the plant will redirect energy to lower branches creating more of a bush than a tree. Light is optimized as the branches should be about at the same height.
Nowa Days, Instead of cutting the tops people now bend the top. I do NOT recommend pinching w/ finger nails. Instead either gently squeeze the stalk(you will feel & hear the crush of the outer stalk), works good for hardening and slowing the top w/o a full bend. Then you can also bend over the top and almost fold it down. BE GENTLE, I try to gently weaken the stalk from all directions using above technique then determine which direction to bend to allow undergrowth most light
Soma has some videos on the web demonstrating this technique. Sorry can't find the link right now.
Good luck
