CALIFORNIA: A potential heir to the Samsung Electronics empire has been arrested in US after police found over 230kg of marijuana in her luggage.
Lisette Lee was arrested by Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) officials at Port Columbus International Airport in Ohio. She was flying from California to Columbus in a private jet when officials became suspicious of her luggage.
Officials also confiscated three mobile phones, cocaine, drug paraphernalia and suspected drug ledgers that showed some $300,000 in transactions. The 28-year-old has been charged with conspiracy and possession of drugs with intent to distribute, Sky News reports. She is being held without bail, and if convicted, she faces up to 40 years in jal and a fine of up to $2 millions.
Lee told investigators that she chartered the plane from Van Nuys in California to Columbus to visit a boyfriend and transport equipment to a horse farm. She said that it was her fourth such trip.
Three other people, who Lee claimed were her secretary and bodyguards, were also arrested at the airport. But DEA agent Anthony Marotta said they have now been released pending possible indictments.
Lee insists that she had no idea that her bags contained drugs. However, they found drugs in her bag and a ledger showing the profits. According to the ledger, there were more than $300,000 in profits.
