When i say i got cool tubes, there actual name is Sputnik shades, they are a sealed shade/lamp i will post a pic tomoz. I already thought about how well sealed they were, they didnt look that well sealed and was a bit bothered about the smell getting through them so have sealed all the joints with aluminium tape, if you go on www.growell.co.uk you can see them there, there on digital ballast too. Yes got air coming in from one end and going out from the opposite end, its all built really well to be fair but do take your point at having it separate but just cant get my head around this passive shit!!
I still wreckon you could get smell leakage if you didnt seal your lamps correctly??
Inside the room everything runs straight through to carbon the there is a 90% bend to the fliter, both runs straight to fans outside room, both fans hung on a tripple bungie cord set up but both then do bend one left for intake and other right for exhaust, but both after the fans.

You need to make sure that any bends are gradual and not sharp. 90degrees is a little sharp in my opinion

The idea of a sealed lamp is that it is just that. I use jubilee clips to seal the ducting to the cooltubes.

The idea of a passive intake is that it is just a vent hole cut into the door of your grow room. Then at the opposite end up the top you have your carbon filter and the fan pulling the air through the room from the passive intake. IF the ambient air that you pull in through the passive intake is lower degreesC than the air inside your grow room then a big enough fan pulling it all through will keep the grow room around 2-3C higher than the air coming in.

So for instance with the right fan setup and a good sized passive intake with an ambient air temp outside your grow room of 22C then the inside of your grow room should stay at around 24-26C as long as your cooltube system works well.

i have used jubilee clips also, the lights come in kit for, assemble yourself and its all ally and no seals so your bound to get some form of leakage. i will post you a message tomoz with a load of pics. Gunna have to go now bird goin mad, bin on this all night!!!! haha class

Thanks for the diagram top man, thats what i was meaning before, next time i am gunna do that. At the mo i got a 4 inch blowing air in and a 5 drawing the warm air out, in the room rather than the end going straight through the room to draw in cool air from outside the room its linked to my carbon.
So it goes
Carbon-----------Light-------------Light----------------Fan------------------Outside

I would of thought but forgive me for being a neubie, but would of thought that blowing in air would reduce my temp more than using the passive method??
Next time im gunna go with everything youve drawn but still use a fan to blow in air rather than a passive.
What do you think??

Pic 2 the lights are too close for those seedlings, at that stage I would move it up to about 24" and move it coloser as they grow till you can be at 8-12 " (sorry about the yank measurements). As previous mentiond keep your ducting as short and straight as possible. Pic one is not ideal.

unfortunately your fan RVK125A1 is not capable of running 2x400w.

somethings you can do to help.

mount your carbon filter so that its in a straight line with your hoods.

try and remove all the bends in your ducting to the fans and from your fans.

you may have even more success if you move the RVK100 as a secondary exhaust into the top of your grow room and have some vented holes in your door.

to run 2x400w in a straight line i would have got at least an RVK125L1.

your hydro shop stiffed you a little.

so to recap
1 straighten all ducting including carbon filter so there is less resistance STRAIGHT LINES ARE BETTER
2 if temps are still a problem try using the RVK100 as a secondary exhaust and just have vented holes in your door

So lighting is now too close, ive moved it from 16" now down to 10", you wreckon to move it back up??
At the mo my temps is running ok, will become a prob if the great british weather picks up again i think, just gunna buy a bigger fan i think, go for RVK125L1 like you say, that way dont have to change the size of duckting either.

at the age your plant are you need it quite high so they dont shrivel up.

keep it at around 20" for now until they start packing on the weight, i use CFL's until they are bigger than yours are now.

your existing 125A1 may work ok if you straighten out all the ducting.

So this is why they call you Bonzi is it, your trying to create Bonzi Trees from your weed????? Haha class. Next thing youll be trimming them into little topiary shapes!!
They are all 2 weeks old today, gunna lift up to 20" now, how long do you think i should do that for?? As not got much head room only gunna veg for 2 to 3 weeks max, is this correct also??

you want to maintain a good canopy temp.

get your thermometer on the tops of pots and check temps. the magic number is under 28C .

i have my 600w in a cooltube about 10inches above my girls.

your plants are already exhibiting heat stress with the curled edges.

raise the light until they are strong enough to cope with the intensity from your 400's this should be about a week.

have you sorted out the kinks in your ducting ???

You can veg them as long or short as you need to.
bigger plants = bigger yield within reason .

Gunna buy a bigger fan tomoz pal, do it the way you drew, sep fans for intake, exhaust lights and exhaust carbon, like you say better way that. Yes done a bit with duckting but very hard to get all kinks out as got to get the air to flow outside. Once new fan comes it will run straight outside no probs. Gunna use the 125a1 for carbon and 125l1 for the lights. This hopefully will work.
Today has been a bit warmer and its quite warm in the room 88!!! 10 toooooo high!!!
i thought it may be heat stress you no but strange how its only 2 or 3, a couple of them are getting rather large now and looking good, post you a pic next week

Just so you know ...Your in great hands here .... J and Bonzi are a fantasic double act ... The know absolutly Nothing about growing plants or how to propperly ventilate a room ... But they are very funny ... So it don't matter

As J Pointed out to somone this week " Making adjustments to a Live room is no fun " And this serves as a leason to anyone " Thinking About Growing some Plant's " It's way more fun to set up and test first thanit is to make adjustments on the fly ... But having said that ... I do enjoy a bit of DIY and changing stuff around to tweak stuff

I had ( am having ) more or less the same situation when i switched to HPS last week .... the heat was crazy ...panic set in and then it was a few days of trying to get the ballence back ... And in the end its just turned out to cost more money as i needed to go get a CoolTube to replace the budget shade i bought to begin with ( Lucky i got it cheap though.. £45 )

So Loooking back i do wish i would have prepared a bit better ...Your on the right track now though Sonny ... A few tweaks and a bit more kit and your grow room ( Good Build by the way ) will be well set up for your next grow .... Then you can start adding " Toys " ...Im looking forward to that bit !! )

Yes i am quite a perfectionist in most the stuff and i do and like shit to be right, guess i just rushed a bit because of the excitment!! But like you say i do like the tinkering aspect to get it right, not to much though.
Think im also gunna purchase a fan that i can alter the speed that way i can crank it up in summer and slower in winter to hopefully give me a nice even temp.
Im gunna add you to my friends if thats ok vento, the more of you guys who no your shit the better, be prepared for plenty of questions if the shit hits the fan though!! haha
