Problem With "Arthritis Balm"

So I boiled down the trimmings (about 4 oz.) of my first plant with water and a cup of olive oil. The recipe, on the AAMC website, said to for 5 hours....ok easy. I left it in the fridge overnight and was supposed to add some beeswax this morning for my final product but the layer I'm supposed to "peel" off wasn't there. Just a liquid oil layer, nothing solid. WTF? I just kinda scooped it out, what did I do wrong?

Well typically when you make a oil/water extract you use an oil that hardens with cold. Things like coconut oil, butter, shortening work well. I think that the olive oil is somewhere in-between where it gets sort of hard in the fridge. I think olive oil is often not pure, I am not 100% sure about how well olive oil hardens. But I am 100% sure if you had used coconut oil, palm oil, or butter you would have a layer to peal off. If you scooped it out and were able to separate it from the water you are fine it should be good to use.

Just extract the hash oil with Naptha, Iso Propyl alcohol (99%-100%) or butane. Resist the temptation to smoke it and apply to the joints. Or do both ;-) Jeeze I can't imagine having to rub oil on my joints without stealing some for some smoke but then again, I've never had arthritis. Good luck

Well.. The point of this would have been so he can apply the lip balm at any location and get his buzz be it for medication or not. So he tried this instead, What you suggested is great and all, But some of us like to get a buzz when we can't go smoke some dope, Or want to be sneaky about it, Like at work or something. But yes, something that hardens when cold, I'm not sure about olive oil at all, only heard it being done with coconut oil so I can't really make any suggestions

Well then one could alway ingest (eat) a little hash oil. Not quite sure as to the point you're trying to make here. You cannot get a buzz at all applying it to joints or melanoma for example aka 'topically'. To get a 'buzz' for pain relief other reasons then one has to either smoke it (ideally the vapour) or eat it (topically)

Does cannabis actually do anything if applied to the skin as a pain releaver? I know it can supposedly cure cancer that way, But Does it actually take care of pain if applied for that use? When ever I think of balm, I think of lip balm, Putting it on your lips would make you bound to ingest it.

I don't believe cannabis acts as a local anesthetic like cocaine (in dentistry) for example. There are some people who make cannabutter etc that use gloves as they claim that the THC can be absorbed through the skin and get you high. Not sure this is true. I do know that it's possible to get a little high just picking magic mushrooms for example and one drop of pure nicotine on the skin can kill you.... then you've got all your nerve agents.

Yes water and oil doesn't mix and putting in the fridge should make the oil hard only certain oils this is why they use butter and certain oils that will go hard in the fridge. Once you cook cannabis it can make it very effective for some and converts it into delta 9's ..and yes scoop it out of the dirty water... peace out Headband707

Cannabis acts like a narcotic/analgesic to knock you out not so much to numb you although others may disagree lol..
Yes it can be absorbed through the skin via osmosis.. peace out Headband707
